Blue cross isn’t going to cover it for anything but type 2 diabetes. If he isn’t type 2 give it up. I recently was prescribed the same meds because of insulin resistance. Even though that eventually leads to type 2 they won’t cover it. I diet and lose 20lbs then stop losing. Doesn’t matter what diet and exercise I try. My doctor said that is typical of insulin resistance. The manufacturer coupon only works if you are diagnosed as type 2. If you lie to get it they look at the diagnosis and still deny paying. Technically there is not a generic of mounjaro approved by the fda yet. There is a compounding pharmacy my doctor likes/trusts so he called in my script there. It’s still stupid expensive. If your doctor is telling you to go the compounding route they should call in a prescription to the compounding pharmacy. That is what mine did. I have a friend that works for blue cross and she told me other states blue crosses have approved the medicine for insulin resistance but ours will not. Today I emailed Senator Kennedy and Cassidy and representative Graves along with the insurance commissioner of Louisiana. It makes no sense that you wouldn’t attempt to prevent a disease but wait to treat until it’s a full blown issue, or pay for bariatric surgery which is way more expensive. And how is it ok that medications your doctor prescribes would cost $1200 a month (what I was told by my pharmacy) without insurance. I’m sure local representatives and senators would be a good route to go but both of mine are new so I don’t know how much pull they have and one I don’t trust to even read the email. That is a very non helpful answer but this is my experience dealing with similar issues.

mine covers it. i dont take it but BCBS does cover it depending on plan.

ETA: forgot my scripts are through cvs caremark, so dunno if bcbs covers it, my bad

I have bcbs medical and CVS Caremark for Rx. Caremark thru my employer. Ozempic used to be covered for me but now is not. Neither is any glp-1 mimetic for weight loss alone. They'll only cover for diabetes.. for now.

I feel like it's just a matter of time before theyre covered for anyone with metabolic disease, obesity, insulin resistance, rtc. I know it's an expensive class of meds, but the long term healthcare costs of obesity are extraordinary and it would seem like insurance stands to save fistful of money even if only 10-15% of people keep weight off long term.

So what's the downside of just taking a small dose long term? Does it negatively affect muscle growth/exercising?

at a low dose for 98% of the population there is nothing but upside, especially when it comes to heart health.

all of the glp1's like semaglutide, mounjaro etc are anti catabolic, just not a strong anti catabolic. well should i say, not strong enough to overcome extreme deficits.

now, so people will have the intestinal sides of either IBS or being stopped up all the time but at the 2.5mg dose thats rare

also many times bodybuilders are very sensitive to the drugs and have a hard time meeting macros without force feeding. So if in a bulking phase, it can be used to control cravings and keep calories clean....but like i said, many bodybuilders, even on 2.5mg, struggle to get the macros in.

So 2.5mg is what you would consider a low dose that is very safe?

Yes, of you tolerate more, great but still need to hit macros. Don’t do so much you can’t.

CVS Caremark through my employer sets my co-pay at $150/m for Zepbound with pre-approval. I'm not on it, but I've looked into it.

I don’t know you or how much you need this med, but $150/month isn’t bad if it’s something that’ll really benefit you. A year ago, I wouldn’t paid that in a heartbeat!

I looked, my Caremark won’t cover pound but will mounjaro even without the diabetes designation and it’s $60/month

So I guess just depends on what your employer plan is with caremark

I will say I like Caremark, especially the $6 testosterone. We also have some plan, forgot name, were long term medications that are expensive are covered through another program with them. I think that is were the mounjaro is covered

6 testosterone.
I’m pretty jealous of this. I pay express scripts $120/90 day supply.

Off-topic but I'd love to get on TRT, but it being a lifetime commitment scares me away.

Oh I did too. I blew up and it was totally worth it.
But my mind was starting to heal and that eventually led to physical fitness. The mind is powerful and without it clicking on all cylinders, most goals are pushed beyond achievement.

For the record...been reading the boards lately on the guys that lift that are using mounjaro and the like as part of a cut......they are doing like we always tend to do and splitting the dose up. even on like the lowest dose of 2.5, they are splitting into 2 shots.

the ones splitting are reporting way less sides it seems, which is honestly to be expected, and then also the true BBers are saying, 2.5 is enough for most on a cut.

Paging 777

Just started Zepbound yesterday, 2.5mg. Current BMI is 28.5 and want to get down to 23. Current weight is 210, target is 170.

What should my macros be? Protein %, fat %, carbs % ? Trying to set things up using fitness pal app.

Thanks for any guidance you can provide…

Just set it at 2000 calories, 40% protein

Don’t worry about carbs and fat ratio, eat however makes you sustainable for you and don’t worry about bmi, worry about waist size at naval and getting stronger at same time. Want to be about 32-34 true measurement at naval

You got insurance to cover it with a BMI of 28? You must have some solid insurance if so! I’m fully expecting mine to drop my coverage after my prior authorization expires.

But you can only get that from a compounding pharmacy, and it’s illegal for compounding pharms to make it in LA.

That is ridiculous.
Step one, write your representative and tell them to make this legal.

yea wasnt going to say anything as the medicine will prolly stop him from being an alcoholic so that is a good thing but the medicine just makes you eat less. doesnt fix "genetic mutations"
