I mean after a point the main issue becomes getting it up above your head if you’re working out alone.

If you're body tells you no more, then NO MORE!!!

You really want a screwed up shoulder just because you want to lift ten more pounds?

meaning you were more than likely all over the place with your shoulders and arms struggling to get the DB up

if you can't lift it right, don't do it

I do 5 sets of 10 with 65 dumbbells. It’s all subjective to a point. As long as you can safely perform the weight with good form, it’s all fair game. Your shoulders might hurt from poor form or lack of mobility.

Yeah, sounds like a form issue.

I am almost the exact same height/weight and I’ve gone up to 75s and 80s without a problem.

Anything heavier than about 50, I feel I get a better pump on the plated shoulder press

I use 40s and do 3x12 standing up. My shoulders are arse though and I don't try to push it. I had labrum surgery my junior year of high school.

I don't think there's a "too much" for pain free pressing with good form.

Too much is when your form breaks down or you put yourself in a compromised position that promotes injury. Other than that, even if DB shoulder presses are just an accessory, getting stronger on them has a beneficial effect across the board.

Yea if you are hauling heavy dumbbells onto your shoulders and using momentum it can get dangerous quick

Exactly, you lift as much as can safely with good form. Asking how much is too much is different for each person.

Off topic, but why do so many high school kids tear their labrums? I’ve done BJJ for years and seen people get their joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles fricked in every possible way and I don’t think I’ve ever heard somebody say “just getting back from a torn labrum”, but I heard it so many times in HS.

Is it an oddly baseball specific injury or something?

Not a form issue

I think it’s just from having to get the weights up to start the set

Lol at the downvotes. Just trying to make sure I don’t get hurt

I throw 80’s up above my head by using my knees to get momentum

Never had any problems

Not sure how you’re having problems getting it up. As stated, use your knees. The weight you’re trying to use may be too heavy for you but only you truly know that since we don’t have video

Just saw this. I’m not sure why it’s common in high schoolers. My sister just tore her labrum by awkwardly falling in the ocean at age 28. I tore mine playing football. Another two kids on the team had issues with their labrums at the time as well. I chalk it up to poor lifting techniques.
