I'd like to see him and Thor go head to head for 501 if neither's hit it at some point.
Thor is the safer bet bc he's shown that level of strength for years, but Makarov's grown a lot lately, so he might have more in the tank.
It's a crazy time for strength sports. Records have pushed so far so fast lately. Chris Duffin squatting 1000+ three times was nuts, and Maddox is on the hottest bench streak of all time.

I really think Thor can do it and make it look relatively easy. Eddie Hall was the first, but I think Thor can surpass him.

Yeah, it is unreal what he's doing. He's benefited from specializing in bench press when many of the other top strength athletes only train it as an accessory. I would love to see what some of those guys can do if they focused on the bench.

Yeah, he blew that one away.
On the stones, I always wondered if Brian Shaw had pushed heavier in his prime, what he would have done. He smoked 560, but I don't think he's tried heavier.
2017 with 560
I always thought this was most underrated strength feats.

Shaw is a natural stone lifter as well. Tall, long arms and explosive off the floor with ability to one motion most stones. He could probably still push the max stone record if he wanted, as it has nothing to do with speed. Shaw has, in my opinion, suffered from being TOO methodical in his approach. It killed him in Santa Monica with the farmers medley and bag over bar.
I will give Brian Shaw credit, the Arnold's organizers floated the idea of a "special invite" to him and he shut that shite down. Brian is a legit good guy.

Oh, fyi, the launch of Brian Shaw's new Evolution brand is today. He did a video the other day showing what they offer.

Brian Shaw and Robert Oberst are a testament to American lifters. Everyone wants to look at Iceland, England or Russia for the strongest. But the US is full of strong mother frickers.

So, it looks like the month of May could see three world records fall. The Stoltman brothers have announced that they will each be gunning for records.
Tom will attempt a 661lb Atlas stone over bar. It would best his previous record of 602lb at the Arnold's/Rogue Record Breakers and keep him headed towards his 700lb goal for next year.
Luke will again attempt the log press WR. His attempt at Rogue Record Breakers wasn't a terrible attempt, and he has said he has made the lift in training. We will see if he can get it done.
Luke's log attempt will be May 19th. Tom's attempt will be May 23. Both will stream live on coresports.world (the same site streaming Thor's attempt at 501).
These are the organizers of the World's Ultimate Strongman in Bahrain. It is cool that they are making the best of a bad situation and giving these guys a platform to perform. The fact they are bringing it to the fans for free (at least Thor's attempt, not sure of the others) is huge.

Robert Oberst
Obie still has plenty in the tank if he wants to get back in to the log press battle. Rob Kearney currently holds the American record. Kearney is one to watch concerning the WR log lift. His split jerk technique has him over performing compared to his size. If Oberst wanted to, he could probably push Kearnery for the American record, which Rob took from him a while ago. I'm not sure how seriously he's training right now, though.

2 days out.
1 day now.
The promo machine is in full overdrive now. I've enjoyed watching all the people bicker about who does what when and does it count. Eddie Hall has been promoting himself and his brand for four years, and everyone else had finally caught on. The hype had become wrestling-esque with all the back and forth. More eyes will be on Thor's lift than ever thought, and it is great for any professional strongman.
People have made the mistake of taking all this buildup and beef personally. It is not personal, and should be viewed as more like a boxing promotion than anything. Hell, Eddie was/is employed by World's Ultimate Strongman. Think about that.
For Thor's sake, I hope he is successful, because he is showing the wear and tear. He needs to taper off badly. He is reminding me more and more of Eddie when he got 500 and won WSM, though he carries it better due to his height. Both have packed on massive amounts of weight (Weight Moves Weight) and have been cycling hard. I bet Thor's hat size has jumped 5 sizes.

I think it's good for strongman and strength sports in general. Publicity has always been tough to come by.
Thankfully they're livestreaming it. Going directly to the audience is good.
Eddie always had to push himself a little harder for WSM because he had a smaller frame. Thor...with the Bell's Palsy already, I just hope he comes through this attempt ok.

I hope ESPN will pick up some of the competition live streams in the future. They are already filmed at a good quality for the most part.
