Anyone here doing this? I just read up on it and am intrigued by it. It goes against everything we have ever been taught in the past about nutrition. Any tips. How is it working for you? Typical diet? Would appreciate the feedback
May get more legit answers on the Food and Drink Board?
Besides the BS nonsense answers you'll get here. Yes, some of us eat this way. I'm currently 100% carnivore since the new year. I've been 100% carnivore for 6 straight months in 2015, and probably 97% meat since.
If you want to eat this way, do not let anyone discourage you. It can be done and people can thrive. This is your body and you have control, not us. You will get push back by eating this way. No way around it. I cannot stress this enough, people will become offended, bothered, and worry about you. The fatties in your life will insist that you will die.
People obsessing over "no variety" don't know how fricking delicious a steak is when they are truly fasting and feasting. You never grow tired of it. I actually get pissed when someone is trying to talk to me when I am feeding (outside of social occasions). STFU and let me eat my damn steak.
How is it working for me? Very well. If you know anything about keto and cramps, the same level of adjustments are needed for keto to carnivore. I got cramps on some dead lifts earlier this year, however, I am fine now. The mental clarity is on another level compared to SAD and keto. Laser like focus and hours of production without even realizing it. I had a history of depression mentioned on this board before - gone. I am glad Jordan Peterson has spoken up on depression/diet as this is an overlooked subject that needs more addressing. Something I am noticing again is my long term memory is coming back in ways I didn't expect. My short term memory is ridiculously good now. Hair and nails grow faster/thicker. My teeth always have that cleaning, smooth feeling.
Tips: Sams/Costco are your friend. As is a freezer. Spend the money up front and buy a whole ribeye and take the time to cut steaks and individually wrap them. Buy ground beef in bulk. Between brisket/ground beef/round/ribeyes I try and avg about $5 per pound on costs. It can be done cheaper or extravagant. Chicken thighs are cheap....or.... I just bought a 17lbs prime ribeye for $170, but I got 14 steaks out of it. Sometimes, all I eat is one large steak a day. Eggs are cheap, bacon can be had, and I also enjoy the Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage - has some bad in it, but overall decent. Some people include dairy, this is really up to you. Some drink alcohol. I am currently not. But if so, dry wines, spirits, and you'll definitely loose tolerance.
Starting out, eat as much as you can stuff. Don't eat again until hungry. Rinse, repeat. That hunger will vary from 4-5 hours, to 20 hours. You are resetting hormones (i.e. leptin and ghrelin) that can be jacked up from other foods. This takes a while. You may gain weight starting out. That is completely normal. The body is finally getting nutrition and wants to hold on to what it has. It could take months to finally reset and let go of the excess weight. If you do not believe me, just check out some testimony on it My zerocarb life. I try to shy away from the celebrities, but her and Jordan's story need to be heard. The aforementioned Jordan and her struggles at first with gaining weight. Take the time to read it.
Meal prep is your friend - look up egg muffins. Basically scrambled eggs with either bacon or sausage mixed in and baked in the oven. That really cuts out the nonsense.
Typical diet: Varies. Right now I am on a beef kick. Mostly ground beef and steak with homemade jerky from round mixed in. I'll swing to chicken if I want. Seafood is also abound in New Orleans. Raw oysters, grilled fish, mussels are my go to when eating out as I can swing a steak at home. I give the sides to my wife. I'll eat pork from time to time - mostly smoked pulled pork that I'll smoke 10-20 pounds at a time and freeze most of it. I have always loved to grill and smoking is just another aspect of the hobby.
There is a common theme of trying it for 30 days and see how you feel. Note what is bothering you before and after. This really is your decision and not the plurality of some online forum. I am only telling you that carnivore can be done. That there are some fascinating aspects of it that I've never found by eating any other way. And that trolling vegans is a side effect - so look out for that.
Other than all that, good luck. It certainly is doable. Let us know how it is going and turns out. I typically update (I need to today) the putdaforkdown thread so feel free to update in there.

Do you think this could be that initially people eat a lot of calories because ghrelin is elevated from a carb rich diet, but as you adapt you have less ghrelin being released, so less hungry, so less caloric intake, so lose weight?
Frankly, the explanation you offered doesn't make much sense to me. But it's easy to make claims because carnivore diets are unstudied.

Possibly. I only brought it up because it may happen. However, more often than not the weight gain doesn't happen. I don't care to really dive into it too deeply tonight.
Who knows. I've heard whispers of Hall wanting to put together a study involving carnivores. So be on the lookout if that comes about. Dave Feldman has a new segment on his carnivore adventure related to his labs. Other studies are being done on certain blood labs on before/after. This isn't very accurate as the study is a mail in on your own. I guess we have to start somewhere. Should be a fun couple of years when the results start up.

I'm always interested in more studies and knowledge. Who knows, maybe it is a holy Grail of diets.. I'm skeptical, but without proper studies we'll never know. Flawed though mail-ins may be, it's a start. If the results are interesting it'll warrant further studies that are more tightly controlled

One thing I can tell you is if you are this dedicated invest in a good meat grinder for a couple hundred dollars and grind your own ground meat. Store bought ground meat-most of which is not ground in house-can come from upwards of 13,000 different cows.
With the exception of eating a burger out somewhere I grind all of my own and have for a few years. I prefer an equal mix of brisket and sirloin but chuck as well. It really isn’t anymore trouble than trimming your steaks and putting them up and cost is typically cheaper.
And invest in a good vacuum packer. Maybe a sous vide as well.
Just FYI.

I like to buy a roast and have them grind for me in store. Easier and less mess lol.

This cannot be overstated and is universal for everyone I know that has committed to a strict carnivorous diet. I’ve done different diets in the past and have always craved other foods or wasn’t satisfied with what foods I had to choose from. I can strictly ribeye every day of the week and never want a different meal.
Posted on 1/28/19 at 1:16 pm to genuineLSUtiger
I’ve gone for a couple of weeks just eating ribeye and hamburger patties. I felt great but it’s just not sustainable for me. I like cracking out on carbs every once and a while.
I’m eating carnivore a few days at time now. When I reintroduce carbs, I start farting and I get heart burn. I also get bloated.

6 month follow up genuine? or anyone else still carnivore eating it up? I still remember daring Hulk in 2015 to join the dark side...
Me - sadly I need to hop back on the wagon - alcohol wise. Beer and veggies snuck in and I need a mental reboot. I was clear of alcohol and (for some reason) decided to quit coffe. I've quit coffee successfully for 4 weeks now and easy with Dl-Phenylalanine. Minor headache the first day and gradually reduced the does throughout the week. I was a heavy (to me) coffee drinker with ~6 mugs a day. I think my increased carb intake this past month was due to the coffee subtraction subconsciously.

After a few months of strict keto I had blood work done (life insurance shopping) and my numbers were bad. They didn't test particle size but..

Is that common? Keto leading to that?

Cholesterol Drop Protocol
I figured you had some like that, should have looked into the drop protocol as you know that these test are just a mark on a constantly changing range. It would be a good idea to try it on your next test. Those trig/hdl numbers are poor, but I'd be curious as if you could get them better being very strict with one of Feldman's protocols - even the three day protocol is worth it.

I don’t reccomend eating only meat. Veggies and good carbs provide a lot of nutrients. I’m no expert though.

Common? Probably not. Buy it's not infrequent... People call them 'hyper responders' and it doesn't always truly mean that you're in danger of heart disease as cholesterol is very complicated, but I'm not really married to low carb anyway so I just figured I should follow the Drs advice. My cholesterol has always run a smidge high - usually runs around 200-210 total. So now I'm on a moderate carb but very high fiber diet. I am for 50g fiber/day. Fiber binds to cholesterol to help clear it out and can lower total cholesterol
I have a really nasty family history of heart disease so I'm not really wanting to play with fire. My dad had a stroke at 38, a heart attack at 40, and a second major heart attack at 41. I'm 30.

Calling that a rant? A bit of stretch wouldn’t you think? Besides, this way of eating isn’t looney, dangerous, or scary. It is completely fine, despite the dogma.
