Can you eat too much fruit?

I'm someone who could eat seemingly endless amounts of fruit each day, and many days I'll have 4-5 servings. With my current diet and training, any chance I should be concerned about too much fruit?
-I do IF, eating only from noon to eight-ish
-I am extremely low carbs and basically no processed food (I'll have bread at lunch if on a sandwich and that's about it)
-No sodas or artificial sweetener drinks, water only (sans booze, but I'm pretty good about weekend only there)
I feel like with the low carbs I'm intaking that the fruit probably is a good source of sugar and carbs for energy purposes, but I wonder if I should cut back a bit. The fiber also keeps me regular as I'm not the biggest vegetable eater. Thoughts?

You can be low carb OR high fruit, which is it?
I think you're fine, but you should probably track macros for a few weeks just to be sure.
What fruit? Berries or bananas?
FWIW, nerd studies show that it's probably best to eat fruit by itself, though I won't get that deep here.

You eat bread for lunch and 4-5 servings of fruit? That's not low carb at all.

This is a high carb diet.
The majority of fruit is high on the glycemic index so your body is having the same insulin reaction as eating normal sugars.

Wait so low-carb diets means no fruit? I always just assumed it was none of the white/grain carbs (bread, rice, potatoes, etc).
Giving that shite up was hard enough. If I gotta give up fruit too, frick that!

No fat arse became a fat arse because they were pigging out on fruit. Don’t sweat it. I wouldn’t get my manties in a bunch over rice and potatoes either.

quote:Low carb means low carb. Fruit is high in carbs. You can pick whatever daily carb budget you want and eat the amount of fruit that fits into that. Berries tend to be the best bang for buck tradeoff between taste, volume and carbs.

It's helpful to keep in mind that today's "fruit" is really just engineered bio-candy. A big arse navel orange, peach or apple is just a massive sugar bomb.

Yea there is no magic about the calories in fruit. Calories are calories no matter if you are low carbing or not. It's not an exact science but it's close.
Like you and I have both said plenty of times, low carb tends to blunt hunger which causes people to eat less. That and eating little processed bullshite tends to help with inflammation and water weight but overall it's still calories in vs calories out. Fruit, rice, potatoes whatever, a carb is still 4 calories per gram.

I don't miss fruit, to be honest. I still eat berries in moderation. but fruit always left me feeling bloated and ick. I thought it was because of the "acid." no. sugar.
when i do eat non-berry fruit, I pick the lowest glycemic load ones.

Greens: Green Beans, Broccoli, Asparagus, Brussel Sprouts, etc are good low card greens.

This is true. The dietary requirement of carbohydrate and fiber in the body is zero.

quote:I've come to realize how big of a scam the whole fiber thing has been over the years. It's like the cholesterol scam: yes, eating the advised low-fat diet DOES generally lower blood cholesterol: however, cholesterol levels are a terrible marker for health...particularly all-cause mortality. Same with fiber: yes, you'll take a lot of shits (i.e. you'll be "regular") - but to what end? If you eat all meat, your bowel movements will be infrequent and small...because your body uses almost all of it. With fiber, you excrete like 85% of it.

It isn't a requirement, particularly on low carb diets, but soluble fiber found in fruits and vegetables can be beneficial to gut flora. There is definitely a breaking point and it can cause a lot of gastrointestinal distress, though, and insoluble fiber really just helps to move things through your body.
I listened to the Joe Rogan podcast with the Dr. that only eats meat and it was very intriguing.. I wish he did bloodwork and more scientific study on himself, but it was interesting nonetheless. Seems like if you eat nothing but meat your body uses so much of it that your barely poop
I will say this: I am still using Avatar Nutrition for macro tracking and coaching, but since my wife and I started whole 30 last week, I have seen a noticeable difference in my energy level. I just don't feel so tired all of the time, provided I actually sleep well. I'm eating the same amount of calories as before, but reduced carbs and higher fats along with better sources of the carbs (sweet potatoes, root vegetables, fruits). Part of this could be the fact that my caffeine and alcohol intake has been next to zero, too.
Once we're done with Whole30 I am interested in introducing certain food groups back in to see if I can find what makes me feel sluggish. My bet is wheat/grains.

quote:That same guy raised some interesting points I had never heard before. e.g. his comments on things like Vitamin C and magnesium. Joe asked him if he was worried since red meat didn't have a lot of those substances. His answer was he thinks it seems like humans need those substances ONLY because the molecules compete with carb molecules. IOW, if you eat low-carb, you just don't need the same micro-nutrients.

When you think of how the Inuit survived for so long by eating solely animal flesh and fats, it makes some sense. The human body is incredibly adaptable.

The Crave diet has never failed me.
if you crave it, don't eat it.
