I’m currently running about a 20:45 3 mile in my Brooks Ghost 11s, which I absolutely love. I’m a neutral runner and slightly heavy footed. I need a good lightweight runner to strictly use to try to get this time down. I need to be sub 20.

Thanks!

Thanks for that.

From the thread, it sounds like I need to give the following a look;

Adidas Boston
Nike zoom streak 7
Brooks Launch 6
Hoka Rocket

Any that fall into this category that I missed?

I am a huge Brooks Ghosts fanboy but it’s not an overly fast shoe. You’d do better in the Launch if you like Brooks

Lol I read that entire thread and you guys were all about those Sketchers. I’m just a little resistant to trying Sletchers for running. I probably sound like a fool saying that. Might give it a try

Their amazon reviews are awesome though

You’d run faster if you were wearing them in your arse than on your feet. Skechers are great shoes and the go run series is tops but I’d stick to the new foam shoes as the Flight Gen sole isn’t for everyone. Get em on sale too if you go that route because they still last 2/3 the life of a typical running shoe but are now the same price.

New shoes are not going to shave 45 seconds off your 5k time.

I just bought a second pair of the Razor 3’s. They have been a good shoe for me so far.

Of course not but a specific racer that’s significantly lighter and designed for that will help. A 9 oz racer will be faster than a 12oz Ghost 11 with 500+ miles on it. If a racer can help me knock 10 seconds off each mile, then I’m significantly closer to that number.

I’d check out the Altra Escalante Racer as well.

study by jack daniels

You might achieve a max of 2.5 second reduction per mile for a lighter pair of shoes. And this study was on a guy running 5:40/mile. So I would assume you would get even less benefit

more of the discussion today is not lighter shoes, but what companies are doing with the foam. absorbing the stride and pushing off are the name of the game.

Good job.

If you really want to juice your time just get some sound bytes of dogs barking, bees swarming, sirens blaring, and angry husband yelling.

Add them to your playlist and hit shuffle.

Guaranteed to boost your pace by :30/mi

Here is some tough love, a sub 20 isn't that fast so it's not your shoes holding you back. Work harder. Run 5 x 1 Mike repeats at 6:15 with 3 minutes rest in between. If you can't do that then start at 6:30 and over the next month decrease your pace by 5 seconds. Do that on Tuesdays and on Thursdays do 8 x 800 meters at 2:50 eAch with 3 minutes rest. Recover on Wednesday and do a long run on Sunday.....race in Saturday. Do the repeats on a track. Good luck.

I completely respect your abilities as a runner but that’s not true and kind of assholish to say. Running a sub 20 probably puts him probably in the top 1% of the world and probably top 10-20% of actual runners.

Yes it can be faster and you’re obviously giving him a path there but your opening salvo was uncalled for and not overly accurate.
