There really isn’t if you equate calories. The harm specifically comes with frying and oxidation, but this is all oil/fat.

Heating the oil does oxidize it and makes it more harmful but the omega 3:6 ratio is what makes seed oils inflammatory in the first place.

Seriously, if this is true provide a link. Something more than “I cut them out and felt better”. I just haven’t seen it.

Linoleic Acid: A Narrative Review of the Effects of Increased Intake in the Standard American Diet and Associations with Chronic Disease

I skimmed this so I may have missed it, but it’s just a description of the mechanism and the potential outcomes. It doesn’t provide data other than correlating seed oil consumption and various diseases.

I’ll read the blog later

——-

Blog post is the same thing. There’s some data that shows mechanisms where linoleic acid is harmful, but I think the outcome data when randomly tested says otherwise. Check out that video I posted on the last page. It highlights a lot regarding effects on inflammation.

I’m not making the case that seed oils are great for you. They’re usually packaged in ultra processed food that’s downright awful. I’m just saying they aren’t the villain that they’re made out to be. I think a lot of our health issues come down to over consumption and lack of exercise. I bet if most people tracked calories or steps, they would be shocked at how much they’ve underestimated each.

I’d argue many people get their seed oils from salad dressing and condiments, rampant soy and canola.

It is almost impossible to buy good salad dressing at a normal grocery store. I make my own bleu cheese dressing sometimes with just Greek yogurt and bleu cheese. My mom does an awesome olive oil and parm dressing and we use just olive oil and vinaigrette a lot.

Oh and that article is too retarded to even deserve a response.

There are no nutrition experts on this site

I’d wear that as a badge of honor given the state of mainstream nutrition “science.”

The Dunning Kruger effect is on full display here on the nutrition topic.

Science and evolution are truth, enzymes are real, we are remnants of the big bang. BUT the best food for humanity just happens to be cheaply produced, subsidized, hydrogenated, deodorized solvent extracted seed oils made using a manufacturing process created within the last 50 years FACT. You are saturated fat but saturated fat is evil and must be eradicated.

Having said that, McDonald’s used to have a concoction of tallow/ cottonseed oil. It was never solely tallow

I unloaded many many 40lb cubes of beef fat and cottonseed oil from 83-88.

Not sure when the switch from 100% tallow and the other switch from the blend to pure seed oil.

They really aren’t hard to avoid. Eat Whole Foods and choose other fats to cook with.

But in recent years, a fringe theory has gained prominence for arguing that seed oils are toxic, put into food by a nefarious elite—including Big Pharma, the FDA, and food manufacturers—to keep Americans unhealthy and dependent.

I don’t know about nefarious.

I don’t think people were saying let’s poison everybody. It’s more like how can we make more product cheaper.

The medical side has just been let’s treat you with medicine and not look at the underlying cause.

Animal fats are very likely to be better than seed oils for your health; however, the impact isn’t even close to exercise and maintaining a healthy weight. So, if I was giving advise it would just be eat in moderation and exercise as much as possible. You can let the other stuff dictate what you use in your home cooking, but going overboard is going to up your stress level and likely have almost zero impact on your healthspan.

It’s possible to eat a diet with no oil or butter for cooking.

I eat cowboy with baked ribeye and pressure cooked white beans. No cooking fat.

Exactly. It's facile to pretend that it's super easy to just opt out if you have any sort of social life.

This is where I disagree. Cellular damage is very likely to impact healthspan.
