Are barbell squats mandatory for a good leg workout?

I just moved to a new apartment complex that has a gym which includes a myriad of machines and dumbbells. I could save quite a bit of money by quitting my gym membership.

Only thing I'm worried about is the inability to do barbell squats. I could do leg extensions, leg curls, dumbbell squats, lunges etc.

Thoughts on if giving up the squat rack is too much of a sacrifice?

Even calisthenics dudes like myself say you better do the barbell squats.

Yeah, I was hoping for different responses but I knew in my heart of hearts the squat is the lift you can least afford to get rid of.

I mean depends how serious you are. They are absolutely not needed for bodybuilding. Pistol and sissy squats along with hack squats work great.

I personally wouldn't want to not be able to do them, but there are ways around them.

If you can do pistols, sissy squats, dumbbell sldl, lunges, goblet squats etc I think you are fine unless you are really serious.

I don’t know. I feel like my week is just fricked without squats. I wouldn’t give it up.

I think I might try going without the bar for 3 months and see how I like it. My legs grow easier than any muscle group.

As far as my goals, they are to maintain a certain level of strength and to look really good naked. Not looking to win any competitions here.

I'm in the same boat. I don't have to do as much work on my legs. Just running and the excercises bike would really be enough, but I also do lunges and dumb bell squats. My issue is my butt though. I do what I call butt curls, I'm not sure the actual name. Basically just put a dumb bell behind your knee when on all fours and pick your leg up as high as possible.

I wish the rest of my body was that easy, but not that case unfortunately.

no

going to need something besides that. Hacks, leg press, power squat machine, etc. Depending on your structure, squats may not be doing shite for your quad development.
