Anyone use golf as a form of exercise?

From what I've read, you burn a pretty big chunk of calories playing golf. I try to play 2-3 times a week, and when I'm playing alone I walk it and use a pull cart, instead of riding.
Every other day I don't play I try to get some form of cardio and strength in. I either slap in a P90x video, or jump on my eliptical (sp??).
Anybody else use golfing as a form of exercise? I figure, if I'm burning a lot of calories while doing something I enjoy it's a good deal.

When it’s warm and the sun stays up late I usually go walk 9 at this rinky dink public course by my office. The fairways are bad but the greens are in decent shape. Plus it’s only $8 to walk nine anyways. I shot a 44 on the back nine there once.
I always leave my phone in the car. It’s usually the most peaceful 70 minutes of my week.
That didn’t answer your question, but I’m sure walking a few miles carrying a bag won’t hurt anyone.

Walking 18 holes of golf will keep you young

I love walking a round alone. but mainly for the mental and dare I say, spiritual benefits of a round. When I was in my 20s and in good shape, I would strap my bad on my back and jog to each shot. Pick a club, catch my breath, focus and hit another, and then strap the bag on and job to the next. And I found that I played just as well or better. Great exercise.
But in my 40s, I’d much rather walk, take my time, and take it all in. Still a fantastic workout.
Reminds me of the story Robert Duvall tells Sean Penn’s character in Colors. 30+ year old movie, and I still remember it.
Duvall: There was a Dad bull grazing on the grass of this plush hill with his young buck son, enjoying the day with the warm spring son on their backs. They reach the zenith and can see down into the valley a herd of young, ripe, fertile cows. The father bull notices, but is silent. The young bull, barely able to contain his excitement proclaims, “Daddy! Daddy! Why don’t we run down there and frick us one of them cows?!” The stoic father replies, “No, son. Why don’t we walk down, and frick them all.”

Also, I have a Jones players’ series bag. It was a Christmas gift, looks old school AF, and weighs about 10 lbs fully loaded. Walking could be easier.

Golf is decent exercise. Especially for the elderly. For someone trying to get a 6 pack, no.

I enjoy playing golf and hope to find more time for it when I get a little older. At the moment, I play about 4 times/year and almost always ride in the cart.
I try to do at least 10 different exercises/sports each month, although don't count golf (or things like walking the dog). Therefore, I don't consider it a form of exercise.
If I walked 18 holes, that would probably be different.

I don't do it in place of exercise, but I walk 95% of the rounds I play. I enjoy walking the course a lot more than riding, and there's no doubt you'll burn more calories carrying a bag and walking 18 than you will riding.

I certainly do as well. If it wasn't a hobby, then I would be miserable doing it because I suck.
Just read that you can easily burn 750-1,000 calories playing a 3 hour round, while walking with a push kart. If that's true, it beats the hell out of a 30 min run, or 30 min elipitcal, where I burn 100-200 calories.
