Never done one but a few of the guys I run with have. I'm a 6 days a week runner and once or twice a week lifter. Have been researching these and am leaning towards jumping in on a spartan beast 21k. Any of yall ever do these type races and have any input ? Thanks in advance

I signed up for the Spartan race in Burnet Tx in May the other day, just the sprint race. The beast sounds like more than I’m ready to take on. I haven’t done one before but I’m under the impression Spartan races are more serious endeavors than the other brands.

hell to the no I dont. Thats a lot of work adn wear adn tear on your body. Im more of a pick heavy things up and put them down kind of guy or sprints or sled pushes or heavy carries etc.

Only way Im running over a 1/4 mile is if a dog is chasing me or the cops are chasing me

I do think those races are bad arse though and the people that do it are in stupid good shape, just not my thing.

Cool. I'm not a crossfitter like the majority of the ppl that do these races but I think I should be able to hold my own. I think the trail running I do will help out on this type of race.

I did the one in NOLA a few years ago. It was a tough mudder. Lots of fun

I did a Spartan in 2019. The course ended up being 8 miles. It was no joke. Hard to train for the hills in Louisiana. I definitely want to do another. I think I’ll have a better grasp of the training this time around.

Ps the burpees sucked!

I’ve done a handful of Tough Mudders.

As a runner, your cardio will be more than enough. You’ll crush if you can do 10 pull-ups or better.

I've done a couple. They were fun but it's something I enjoy enough to do every year.

What kind of stuff do you do besides trail run? Climbing over obstacles and stuff I assume? Going under ropes crawling through mud?

I did a tough mudder. It was ok. The first "obstacle" was an everyone crawl through 4 feet of muddy water so your covered in mud weighing you down by 15 lbs the entire rest of the time. I wore some workout shorts with pockets in them and was picking mud out 3 or 4 washes later haha

I'm scheduled to run 2 this year, a sprint and a super. They are deferred races from last year. I've never run them before.

If the first one goes well, I may sign up for a beast later in the year to get the trifecta.
