I’ve had a good week! I’ve been training for a 50k in April and decided somewhat last minute to hit Red Dirt Ultra with some friends yesterday. Last weekend I tested my DL and BP and came away with 550 and 360 respectively. Also got 20 @ 225 on BP. My 50k(31miles) time was 6:30. Time to eat!!!!

I've DL 551, BP 361, 225 x 21, and ran 51k

Tough luck man

Who TF just ups and decides to run for distance? You sound like a psychopath

Good work though

I’ve been training towards a 50k in April. My dad, who’s done many marathons, ultras, Ironman, felt I was ready and encouraged me to try. Worked out pretty good.

I’m always so impressed by people who can both run and lift.

If I’m lifting heavy, I struggle to run 10 miles a week. shite...5 miles a week lately. Last year not lifting? 40 miles a week and ran a marathon.

I’m too sore and tired to do both.

The biggest trick is figuring how often to train a certain movement and how quickly you can recover. Some I can train more often than others. I do very few long, flat runs bc I’m 245 lbs. But I do A TON of hill repeats which plays to my advantage in ultra trails. I also do not train heavy if I’m not near 100% fresh. I do A LOT of stretching and rolling and do even more active recovery. Long walks or fan bike ride helps me a ton.

We’re gonna need a more complete summary of your training. You can out run and lift almost everyone on this board and we’re the bros who workout.

Marchballer, I love talking training. Tbh I don’t have a whole lot of “fluff”. Ex I don’t mess around with too many curls haha. I don’t really follow a program either. I NEVER EVER annihalte a muscle group or stress a system to the point where I cannot recover in 36-48 hrs. I like to think that I “tap” instead of “hammer” a stimulus to drive adaptation, if that makes any sense at all.

Polar, you too buddy. I’ll be the overweight red headed guy haha. I think my dad is gonna be there. If he’s there and decides to “run” he’ll be one of the top 3. It’s gonna be a good day no doubt.

So like Greyskull or Wendler’s 5/3/1 plus marathon training?

You’ve got to be eating 5000 calories a day.

Stringed, yes I have run a 3day/week 531 and a half marathon program with some success. The past 2 months I’ve pretty much been winging it in the weight room. Get in 2-3 days a week and just do the work to maintain whatever strength I want to. Running 3-4 days a week. I do eat a lot. And this past 2 months I’ve cut back on supplemental protein bc I felt solid food was my best route for whatever reason. Lots of steak haha
