I've run a bunch of 50K and 50 mile races but have never notched the 100 miler. I hope that this is finally the year and aiming to do one in the fall. I'll track my weekly progress in this thread. I'm aiming to get started on Monday June 11th and will adjust the plan accordingly, once I pick a race.

Training Plan - in addition, I will continue to lifts and do stairs

In addition to the running, I'm going to try and maintain my liftinng. I'm following Wendler 5/3/1 and have been really pleased with the results and the quick routines. I'll also continue shifting towards a lower carb diet aiming for a 70/20/10 macro split.

Good luck.
There literally is zero possibility that i could run a marathon and the very next day run 20 miles.
BTW, what does the "CD" mean for the weeks?

Cycle Down, a CD week is supposed to be a lower mileage week that lets your body recover. However, those 1st 3 CD weeks are slower pace weeks, not necessarily lower miles.

my crew is gearing up for a couple of trail run marathons this winter. but i'm not going to pick up harder training till October.

right now i'm just in maintenance mode and try to keep 30 miles a week all before 8 AM. your weeks 13-15 look like the stuff nightmares are made of.

Good luck dude

Maybe I’ll pick up my running when my kid/kids get older and I have more time.

Couldn’t imagine finding the time to train for a 100.

It’s definitely a goal though.

What races are you thinking about doing?

if that's directed at me, the ones we have on our radar are:

Capt'n Karl's Night run
Colorado Crossing
Wild Hare
Mosaic
The Circus
Saddle Blazer
Bataan Death March

all in TX except for the Bataan.

my wife is not madly in love with my running habits so i'll probably only do one in the fall and spring. but i might try and swing a fall run and Saddle Blazer in February (since it's 20 minutes from me) and Bataan as a vacation run since it's pretty close to riodoso. she doesn't dislike that i like to stay healthy or anything, but when i say something along the lines of "i need to keep my mileage up this week" she rolls her eyes.

my group loves long runs but they're all a bunch of tall lanky guys or short and skinny. they all just did R2R in the grand canyon and a couple of them did R2R2R which was damn impressive.

i'm stocky 5'10 who lifts a lot so anything over a half is pushing it for me. i'd love to try a full or ultra, but i don't know if my life would allow me for that type of training.

Best of luck. This looks like goals. I’m considering a half marathon trail run with 3k elevation gain at the end of the year. Combine that with goin after the 1000 lb club it’s gonna be a hell of a year.

I finished my first 100 in April at Umstead. Not sure what race you are looking at or your finish time goal but I would suggest having a couple weeks with mileage 85+. I followed a 12 week plan that was put together by a friend who has finished 10 100's.

Cactus Rose (did the 50 miler so familiar with course and setup)
Dinosaur Valley
Pumpkin Holler

Thanks for the advice. My time is limited so I won't log as many miles as I did in years past. I do plan to add in a couple of hours of stairs each week, in addition to the listed mileage above. I'll usually do a lifting session and then 15 to 30 min of stairs afterwards.

I would like to do R2R2R one day. Maybe once kids are older and can work it into a family vacation.

I would also love to do the Nolan's 14 line in a single push. I could never do the 60hr target but but maybe over 4 or 5 days.

I'm reading this and I struggled to keep a decent pace on a one miler after my workout.

I have work to do.

Good luck

Had a buddy in Memphis last year who was running the 100 miler in Colorado and was running 30/50s and 40/60s on Saturday/Sunday training for it toward the end. My goal is to do a full by the end of the year. I've run enough halfs that I'm getting to the point that I need to do a full before I lose stamina on caring for longer runs

i did 5 miles today with around 700 foot elevation gain and nearly died in the first half mile. and i'm an every day runner. granted it was franklin mountains and a higher elevation, but a half with that much elevation makes me want to cry. i've done a half with 1k elevation but it was much more gradual and in the fall.

WK1D1

This was supposed to be lifting or a rest day. However, I'm on travel and temps were in the 60s, so I got in an easy 12 miles. This was also my 15th day in a row to run but the mileage has been low with only 82 total miles. Also got in 6 lifting sessions and 3 hours of stairs during those 15 days.

Week 1 in the books

This felt really easy and I could probably go back and rework my training plan to up the miles. However, I have an unplanned trip this week and my miles will probably end up being lower during WK2.
