Where’s your interest in golf compared with the Tiger and Phil rivalry in the 2000’s?

Do you like the current top 3 of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy or prefer watching golf when Tiger and Phil were consistently battling for the top spot?

It had nothing to do with Phil….
You have Golf, and golf with Tiger
Golf with Tiger just lasted so long we forgot golf without Tiger wasn’t really that popular
I still love playing golf but my interest isn’t close to the same in the watching portion of it

Are you referring to watching golf or playing?
I think it’s more popular than ever before, especially with TopGolf and more rounds being played throughout the country at various courses.

Tiger and Phil were never a rivalry.
I do remember when Duval and tiger were rivals. Way back!!!

I would have to disagree. They were very much rivals.

Exactly. I’m not sure what that poster is referring to.

I was always a bigger Phil fan . Now it’s def not a must watch except majors.

If I had to rank my interest it'd go...
1. Tiger
T2. Rory and Scottie
T4. Xander and Phil
IMO, the only thing that made Phil compelling was that he was the foil to Tiger

They are about as interesting as plain oatmeal

It’s interesting you don’t really give Phil his due. He’s basically the Josh Allen of Golf, except he won the big one 6 times, and he helped spearhead an entire new golf league. (largely Bc the pga commish is a pompous douche)

Back then most of us thought Phil was the outgoing good guy and Tiger was the buttoned up killer. Today, Phil is a widely known douche and Tiger is the nice guy who we all wish would compete for another major championship. Funny how time changes your perceptions.

Golf before Tiger was better to watch. I know Tiger brought a lot of people into the sport, but the 80's and early 90's were some of the best. Nicklaus , Watson, Trevino were the best personalities out there. Then Norman came along with Faldo, Price, Mickelson. Tiger just made it a one man sport. Duval was an a-hole that no one liked.

Duval is often forgot about. He was never scared of tiger. That was some good battles

Tiger crushing his soul put him in a mental headspace he is just recently recovering from. If Tiger joins the senior tour, Duval may hang it up again.

Most everyone in today's game are friends so there aren't any true rivalries. Tiger had more rivals than just Phil, there was Duval, VJ, and Ernie Els. Besides Ernie, I genuinely believe the others didn't like each other, they respected each other but there was no love lost between them at all. Scottie is a good dude, I don't know if there's anyone on tour who doesn't like him and that is what is missing in today's game but dang Scottie is good. He's my favorite now just like Tiger was, I still like Tiger but he isn't competitive anymore. I enjoy watching greatness and don't mind the person or team who dominates a sport. I appreciate them and admire their ability to maintain that level of competitiveness and greatness for a long period of time.

My interest is pretty much the same. I still watch golf nearly every weekend. I get excited for the majors. But it is different. We have more access to what's going on in the pro game now than we did in the 2000s. We can listen to podcasts and interviews with top players now that didn't exist back then. YouTube videos that show the personal side of players are helping as well. This in turn leads to more interest in the game in general for me.
The media blowing Tiger all the time just made me dislike him. I still dislike him, but he's seemingly a little more humble these days. But the dude cheated on his wife with skank whores, drove high on multiple pain killers and crashed his car at a high rate of speed and nearly killed himself and others, but Phil's the bad guy. frick Tiger.
