If you can make it from BR to the Bluffs clubhouse in 25 minutes, I’ll give you my next Christmas bonus. Don’t be fooled by their shtick. It’s 35 minutes after you get off I-110 and 61 North.

I"ve lived there since 98. I work near Bocage. It takes 45 minutes without rushing to get to work. It is not 35 minutes after getting off I-10, more like 35 minutes from downtown in "normal" rush hour situations.

This is why we can't have nice things

From the exit from 110 to the turnoff at Folkes rd which is 5 minutes from the rear entrance, is 25 miles of 4 lane uncrowded highway with one traffic light at Hwy 64. The speed limit is 65, some of us might actually exceed that.

If the course is restored to its previous excellent level of conditioning, as the new owner promises, I would suggest the extra drive time and slightly higher greens fee is well worth it.

Or the it up in BR where traffic is never an issue on one of the overcrowded well worn layouts of the BREC system and save that 5-10 dollars.

When I lived in the garden district I would play there on Sundays a good bit for years. I drove the speed limit, maybe a mile or two over. It was 40-50 minutes from my door to the bag drop.

I timed the drive Saturday after the game driving the speed limit +- 2-3 mph. From the Govt St/Convention St. exit signs downtown it was 32 minutes to my garage on no. 8. Caught the light at Zachary but not at the foot of interstate.

Probably doesnt matter, though. New owner announced the golf club will be private only. interesting.

You picked the closest livable street in EBR to The Bluffs to time it lol. From Shenandoah, it's a hike.

But I could like the private idea if it was truly pristine and was trying to cater to a bunch of out of town members. I can't imagine there are enough local members (including EBR) to stay solely private. But what do I know.

Will have to have a great out of town member rate, college student rate and junior member rate.

Plus homeowners are going to have to subsidize.

I hope it works.

I think they advertise or advertised being 35 minutes from downtown BR. the legitamy of the advertisement was the point. Someone said it was 50 minutes from the end of interstate.

I would love to see just don’t think that’s possible. Will probably take 300+ members with some serious dues to keep it up and running.

Good to see him coming in full of piss and vinegar. Hope they can keep it up and make it a sustainable club.

Depending on pricing structure, I agree.

He dropped a bunch of money on the course and is about to drop a ton in reno. That is a level of commitment I wasn't expecting.

He’s going to have to. There is nothing salvageable at this point. It’s a complete rebuild. He, and/or his investors, need some deep pockets.

Pretty sure they have the pockets.

So far they are doing everything they said they would.

Hopefully they announce the director of golf soon.

It isn't whether they have the pockets. It is whether they have the pockets and are also obsessed with the golf course enough to lose a bunch of money on it if necessary.

BINGO!
You will NOT get your money back at the Bluffs. But you will spend a ton keeping it alive.
Hopefully these people are in it for the very long haul.

While generally I agree with you, there may be a change to get it to profitability. Number one is getting the golf course back to number one in Louisiana. Then you focus on reducing costs and increases the profitable parts which they seem to be doing. Decreasing bunker # to lower costs, investing heavily in the restaurant to sustain non golf patronage, etc. Lastly you go on an all out blitz for membership. Hopefully they catch lightning in a thimble and keep this place top tier for years to come.

The country will be in a deep recession in four months.

Cost of maintaining a golf course have skyrocketed over the last two years. When a deal like this takes place there’s budgetary projections, well those numbers have gone out the window so investors will start cutting corners elsewhere to make up for the difference, therefore non-golf amenities will suffer.

With UClub, CCL, BRCC all within 30 minutes of each other you are competing against a relatively small market share already.

The Bluffs problem is location and surrounding infrastructure. Sure SFV has some great things on the horizon but it will be a hard sell/draw to the BR money crowd and the once a month weekend golfer ain’t gonna keep the lights on up there.

I give it two years to be at it’s peak and then close two years later. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it.
