So much fun, and incredible, to see where the pros hit the ball compared to my game. Humbling.
Bay Hill is a tough course. From the member tees, my best is only an 86. I'm a 10 hdcp. Never hit more long irons (3,4,5) in my life.

One of the more wild things i’ve seen is the marker in the 18 fairway at Erin Hills. JT hit a 3 wood to 3 feet from like 310 at the out at the US Open and seeing it in person is mind boggling. That is one of the hardest holes i’ve ever played and seeing that makes you question life lol.

BH has the plaque on 18 fairway from the Robert Gomez hole out in 1990. 176 yard 7-iron. That's a long shot.

Colonial, Kapalua Plantation, Doral and Pebble are always special to me to watch because of that.

I’ve played a bunch on the front end of the schedule (Palm Springs, Torrey, Pebble, Scottsdale, Sawgrass, San Antonio and Austin CC when that was on the schedule)

Haven’t played a single course on the schedule after the Masters

I enjoy pulling out my yardage books & seeing where the pros are compared to where I was. It’s also interesting to see how much longer the courses have gotten from when I played them.

That's a STRONG group there. Nice.

Golf digest did an article of where you should play from IF you want to “play” the course like the “pros.”

LINK

I’m at 5142 according to the article.

My club used to host a Korn Ferry tournament until recently, it was really fun to walk the course and watch how real pros approach a course I know like the back of my hand and make it seem like muni track. The bombs launched on one of our big par 5s made me feel like so much more of a shitty golfer than I already am.

Played Shoal Creek the week after the PGA, shot 78 from the tips. Much less pressure than the pros were under.

I get the math on this, but I surely don't need to be playing from 5,900 yard tees. I'm a 9 HC, my "Average" drive is probably in the 250 range, max out about 275. I play the one ups at my course which is about 6,500. I wouldn't play anything longer than that, but I never feel like I have anything longer than a 9i if I hit a decent drive on a par 4. I wouldn't want to be any shorter.

There are 2 or 3 holes that are longer and have 6/7 iron in if a good drive is hit, but they are the higher HC holes.

I will probably need to move up again pretty soon.
I can play ok up to 6200 or so, but I look for a tee around 6000.

It’s enough for me.
I don’t drive it long and I don’t hit an 8 iron 170.

We usually play around 6300-6500. Our blood & guts rounds are in the past.

My comfortable 8 iron is 155 now, I don't even try to stretch it any longer nowadays to protect my back.

One of our guys keeps a spreadsheet on all of our bets. Usually the year long money tally is is about even for everyone.

Except for one guy we call "Jackson" because he go "Lone Wolf" a lot and usually loses a 20 dollar bill every time we play.

Subtle brag they play on the course at the club I live at. Fun to watch on tv and see the blimp out the window.

I stood on the marker this past September. I agree, seeing that in person make it so much more impressive. That is not an easy shot. With the crazy winds there, I can definitely see if possible though. Tough track, you have to miss in the right spot on some holes!

Turnberry, Carnoustie, and Kiawah for me. Best round was Kiawah. The scottish courses ate me alive, but it was fun none the less

Yeah, I've played Pinehurst #2 and Sedgefield.

It is cool watching how easy they make it look. I've played Sedgefield a few times. It's actually one of the more boring courses I've ever played. Don't care for it. But I struggle to shoot in the 80s there, played during tourney conditions. You'd lose your ball in the rough, it was so high. And trying to hit out of hit it was so damn hard to do. Never had grass grab my club like that place.

But watching the pros tear that place apart really shows you how good pro players are. It's pretty unbelievable.

I find it crazy how some of these courses are in bad shape most of the year and still charge so much. Bay Hill was pretty meh when I played in September.
