Greens were running fast and both were sliders.

I guess some 15s are just really strong putters especially under pressure.

First was a par 3 to 15 feet with a headwind, hole was 165 or so.

Second was probably a wedge. I’ve seen 15s dunk that shot at times.

Dude was clutch. I made par at the two hardest holes on the side we played. Could not seem to beat his nets much when his stick had a bad hole. He had 8 shots. Later against another team he shot 40 with 7 shots. He somehow managed to outperform that 15 every match.

I looked in GHIN and he’s a 13. I suspect he’s about a 10.

Not really any difference between a 15 hc and a 10 hc on a given day..

You make it sound like a 15 handicap doesn't even know which end of the club to hit with...

Wow, your greens were faster than the US Open.

Funny how many people think their greens roll at a 12.

Edit
Just messing with ya. Funny though.

It depends on where the top 8 scores are located in relation to the last 20.

The only way his handicap isn't dropping significantly is if these 4-5 rounds that are likely sub 10 differential kicked out 4-5 rounds around the same score that he shot 15-20 rounds ago. That just seemed unlikely to me.

Not to be an arse, but there is literally 5 strokes difference on their best 8/20 days.

There is a big difference between the two.

The is the same as saying a 10 handicap is the same as a 5, or a 5 the same as a scratch. It just isn't true.

I find the new system is based more on potential more than consistency. It’s those who cheat the system and don’t plug every score it hurts the most. A 15 isn’t a bad golfer and keeps up, hell I know 20’s who play faster than scratch golfers, they hit it solid more often than not but have no clue where it’s going, some are pathetic and are amazing putters, it’s possible.

Was their handicap the month of the member guest the one used or was the 15 their lowest of the year? Not that hard for someone to "sandbag" or input whatever they want to help out their partner if the team feels like they have a good chance at winning. Always have "those guys" at the bigger tournaments.

I've been dropping around a half a stroke or more each week. Guess I didn't mention that in my previous post. I'm not staying at 16. I was down to 11.9 in mid September and I'm waiting until Sunday to find out what the last two rounds have done. He didn't put the scores in from the previous week and I shot a 78 this last week. So I'm guessing I'll be around 10.9.

Based on score averages though.

Im a 10 handicap and shoot in the 70s. Had a 75 earlier this year.

Golfers can have good days.

But I do understand the amount of dumb, petty cheating in tourneys. Which is why I never mess around with tournaments, especially real ones.

It was a 3 day event.

He outperformed his index 3 straight days.
Statistically, it’s improbable.

No big deal.
I like my tee gifts and had fun in the matches.
It’s just hard to chase 8 shots.

I looked him up.

He’s a 13.3 on GHIN.

OK. So, we round down, and he's a legit 13 HDCP.

That's a ONE stroke/side advantage.

Sounds to me like you let him get under your skin, which caused you and your teammate to tank and get taken to the cleaners by this guy and his partner.

Yes, sandbaggers suck, but 2 strokes ain't much sandbagging TBH. It's the guys who claim to be 18s and such then go out and break 80 who need to be skulldragged to their cars after the round.

Makers, we just had a M-M, 9-HOLE match around. Newer member, listing a current 7 but had to play to 5 (my club takes lowest 12 month index)... In 45 holes, he was 4 over, gross. Needless to say, they won going away...

According to some experts here, he just had a good run.

According to the “Pope of Slope” he beat his index by at least 3 strokes which calculates to some very, very long odds.

In general, a person’s course handicap is about 3 strokes better than their average. So a course 5 would average about 8 over.
It is very hard to beat your handicap in consecutive rounds. To beat it by 3 shots is about 1:51. To do it back to back is about 1:2500. Three times? The math gets to big for me.

Net events are worthless. I only play for the tee gifts and food/beverage.

Beating your handicap is a good day.
Beating by 5 shots is a great day.
Doing it twice in a row is amazing.

Rare things can happen, but out performing an index consistently is not likely once a handicap is established.

It is what it is.
