Watched a 15 in the member guest shootout
Bury 2 6 footers and hit 3 water carries without soaking one.

He was getting 8 shots off his stick partner.
Hard to run down that many shots.

I guess some people peak at the right moments.

This doesn’t seem out of place.

How far are we talking? Like 230 over water into a par 5?

Greens were running fast and both were sliders.

I guess some 15s are just really strong putters especially under pressure.

First was a par 3 to 15 feet with a headwind, hole was 165 or so.

Second was probably a wedge. I’ve seen 15s dunk that shot at times.

Dude was clutch. I made par at the two hardest holes on the side we played. Could not seem to beat his nets much when his stick had a bad hole. He had 8 shots. Later against another team he shot 40 with 7 shots. He somehow managed to outperform that 15 every match.

I looked in GHIN and he’s a 13. I suspect he’s about a 10.

Are these really out of line? I don’t carry a HC anymore but when I did I was as good as about an 11, and mostly hung in the 13-14 range. I do those things you’ve mentioned routinely when I play. 165 is an 8 iron, I’m hitting that within 15 feet if I’ve been playing and practicing. I also think I’m capable of making two 6 footers. I consider myself a good putter and average 2 putts or slightly less per hole. I shoot mostly in the mig/high 80s and into the 90s on a bad day.

What’s funny is I’ve rarely played with anyone better than me too. I know they’re out there and it would help my game to play with them and watch them. But realistically most weekend warriors out there aren’t shooting in the 70s or low 80s (or putting out/following rules/keeping accurate score) But yea, It isn’t like us people worse than a single digit are playing blindfolded

re: Watched a 15 in the member guest shootout
I’ve recorded 121 rounds this year. I play with plus index players and as high as 24. I certainly can recognize the difference between a 10 and a 15.

Our greens were at least 12/13 stimp this week.

A 15 on an average course would shot 90 on average. A 15 shot range of 83-97 or so. Our course has a 138 slope and a 72 course rating.
A “15” will not break 90 over and over at our course. The dude made every shot he had to.

He shot a net 33 against another team.
He best that index like a drum 5 times

15s are not automatic from 6 feet on a downhill, side hill putt. 15s can screw up anywhere. They do not make shot after shot after shot.

Handicap is your potential. Your best golf. Not an average. Dude was sandbagging 3-5 shots as a 15.

A 15 in those conditions will almost never break 90. That guy lied his arse off.

I looked him up.

He’s a 13.3 on GHIN.
Our shop did not verify which is pathetic.

He’s probably a 10 or maybe even an 8.

Not even close to the worst. How about the guy that always miraculously finds his ball? Or the guy who forgets to count his penalty stroke?

Sandbaggers are everywhere. If you are playing in a serious event, the club needs to be verifying. If you are playing in a charity scramble, don't let it bother you.

He’s probably a 13.3 index on ghin and 15 course hc. What course was this at?

If he’s a 13.3 GHIN and your course is as difficult as you describe his course handicap is probably at or near 15.

ETA: I’d expect a 15 to be able to carry a ball 165 over water and also on the wedge shot you described. None of that seems weird to me honestly.

Why is it so hard for people to process that a 13-15 could hit these shots in a team golf format? I’m about a 12, and I play my best in a team format. None of this sounds unreasonable to me.

They CAN hit these shots. It’s improbable that they would hit all of them all weekend long especially under tournament conditions and pressure.

I think the chances of a 13.3 index carrying the water from 165 and a wedge are much higher than the greens actually running at a 12 or 13, as described.

However, a 13.3 making two downhill sliders on greens that slippery seems pretty low

ETA: Every member guest is won by someone who plays well relative to his handicap, nothing you said seems egregious to me. Especially carrying the water with a wedge and an 8 iron. I would expect a 15 does that significantly more than 50% of the time

Thats why member-guest tournaments need to be done in a point-quota format off 38pts with up to a 50% adjustment each day. Was money involved? You need to have a men's golf association with some balls to protect the field...if member has balls to bring him back next yr then it will be very interesting to watch how club handles him and member...the model club for member-guest tournaments is McAllen CC down in McAllen, Tx they have 3 day tournament point-quota off 38pts with open Calcutta..this year went from 54 team event to 72 with $128,000 in Calcutta...30% (10%/Day)went to day money which paid 5 teams a day...and in 70% went to top 15 teams...

re: Watched a 15 in the member guest shootout
I was carrying a 16 for quite awhile in our money round on Sundays. One guy keeps up with the handicaps and he only logs our Sunday rounds and we don't put in other rounds we play.

I changed a bunch of stuff with my swing and got fitted for clubs and I've been shooting < 10 over for the last 4 or 5 weeks. We had a new guy join our group that is a 4 handicap. I did start getting much better when he joined. My handicap just hasn't had time to adjust and I'm still waiting to see if I can hit this score with consistency. I started taking fewer strokes with the new guy on our side bets and I've been beating him still. He is giving me 2 strokes a side.

He's not happy now but there is literally no way I can fudge my handicap and we all golf with each other and keep track of each others score. I'm not shaving strokes, and I'm not able to lie about my handicap. I'm guessing my situation is anomaly and not normal so I guess it's not out of line to question his handicap. But it's not remotely impossible.

The shots you're questioning aren't entirely out of the norm either so that doesn't compute.

Wouldn't this mean that half of your current handicap has scores that are 82 or better? I would think your handicap should still have dropped a good bit in that time.
