When I was at The Island our operating expenses were closer the 1.3 million, maintenance budget was in the 650 K range.

That should be the goals.

Golf industry is tough.
I worked in it for short period few years ago.
I’ve been on board of our country club, managed labor during superintendent vacancy times.
Chemicals, equipment are two biggest expenses.
Labor is also tough at times.
What I’ve seen past several years is lack of interest in players.
Tournaments that used to fill don’t anymore.
Older guys quit or die. Not as many younger guys playing golf.
Sucks. I love it. We used to have weekly games that would involve 10-20 guys.
Hard to find a game worth playing in now.

I think overall interest has been strong the two or three years. Not where it was but seems to be improving and not getting worse.
My experience: I think the main reason games are getting smaller is because new people don’t feel like playing the game within the game. You have to play the actual golf game then you have to play the handicap sandbag game. The guys running games and their regulars have to set it up for them to win. New guys coming in just don’t want to deal with all that.
Tournaments have a similar problem. I have played in tournaments where you will have 8 guys net 60s.
That kind of stuff is a huge turnoff to new golfers. Especially when you tell them everyone has a chance in net division when it just isn’t true.

The problem is most groups are only able to play Friday afternoons or weekends. People don’t just want to go to the course by themselves. Creating 6 and 9 hole leagues where people can play after work May be a good start. I’ve been developing something like that but that’s on hold.

It’s really hard to set it up for “them” to win a skins game or Nassau.

People don’t have to win to have fun.

True.
But I enjoy playing for money. Always have.
The days I wander around the course alone practicing are my “fun days”

9 hole scrambles one afternoon a week. 4-5 players per team drawn by handicaps. I loved playing in these growing up.

Per website they were still going to cut the grass and they were actively looking for a buyer

Last I heard, there were 4 potential buyers for the course. About a month ago

Great news. I’ve always enjoyed the course. Years ago a had a membership and I think Glenn was the GM - what a top notch guy.

Let’s go play Nassau. I’ll tell you my handicap after you tell me yours.

An announcement should be coming in the next two weeks. I know who will be managing but not sure who purchased it or if they are the same. That’s what I’m finding out.
