Imagine someone telling everyone this would happen and being called insufferable.

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news. I don’t want to be personally attacked.

I am just telling you guys the truth and it is happening. Y’all don’t want to hear it.

Then why Can’t you get a pre-noon tee time on Fri/Sat/sun if you aren’t booked by Monday???

Golf will never work if everyone only wants to play Friday Saturday Sunday before noon AND oh by the way I want to book that tee time the day before.

It is even better because now you have to plan a round which will allow these courses to actually run and manage its business. Or you may have to join a club. This is healthy for golf and the golf business.

Plus I bet you didn’t call every course in the area. LSU and Dumas and Clark probably had openings.

Public rounds in the Baton Rouge area are subsidized by tax payers and home owners in some way. If the majority of public golfers had to pay what a round truly cost to play at the conditions they expect you would have wide open tee times.

I truly believe people have little understanding on how much things cost. A large rough mower can be 30k. Simple chemicals 3k-5k monthly. You have to pack out a course to turn a profit.

No one is going to open a new course or save your favorite one because people need to book last minute Friday Saturday and Sunday morning tee times and refuse to play any other way. That isn’t a golf business that will work.

Webb’s are probably all singles, bluffs I’ll give u. The rest, LOL.

I do see ur point about the money and packing the course. But how do other similar cities make it work?

It's laughable to call Dumas and Clark golf courses

More golfers. Louisiana has to be low in golfers per capita.

MikeD, I agree. I have warned everyone we will lose all the good courses and be stuck with BREC. No one would listen and I would get downvoted for days for suggesting we advocate for Dumas and LSU to close so places like The Island could make it.

What is a similar city to BR with successful golf? We have a TON of courses per golfer. Our demographics are not great and getting worse. White collar jobs are fleeing BR and LA.

As long as LSU wants to keep dumping money into that pasture, I’m good with it. It’s terrible but the fact that it has a range and I can go play on whim makes the conditions almost irrelevant to me. It’s my practice round place. Only hit Nitro balls cause you’re gonna lose a dozen lol

As long as you know LSU is a big reason why places like the Island have struggled. LSU will never invest anything into that course. Sherwood and The Island would have.

I enjoy the discussion. Sorry, if it seemed otherwise. Other people on this site get so butthurt. Then they cannot figure out why their favorite course is closing or in terrible shape.

All good. I’m no expert on the golf business. I wish I could book a week in advance, or have a standing time every Tuesday. Life don’t work that way.

I practice golf 10x more than I play golf lol
