I'm starting to think that it isn't the amount of courses we have, it's that every single one is trying to live in the same lane.

Webb and City Park looking like actual golf courses with grass and fairway lines, is jarring. The new golf course at Clark/Dumas will likely be similar. It is a step up to SM and BC, but not nearly what it could be. I agree that maybe a good option is pricing out half the golfers at SM.and BC. Charge $100 for SM, $75 for BC, $45 for Webb, $20-30 for Clark and City Park.

The wear and tear would be better and you'd force the golfers to spread out to other courses.

You make a very strong point. It really makes me think because the main reason golf sucks here is economics are screwed up because BREC caps prices so low that it makes it uninvestable. If they charged market rates for top end courses it would fix that.

ETA: At a minimum SM and BC should charge a premium to out of Parish golfers.

It is very sad about The Bluffs...they have had a history of problems, turmoil, tragedies and changes with weather, ownership, membership and staff. The enduring thing has always been the fabulous golf course. The setting is spectacular and like no other course in Louisiana. I remember Arnold Palmer being there when it opened and said "The Bluffs may not be the best course in America, but you will think it is every time you play it". That was so true. I sure hope the owners, HOA or someone can turn it around as it could be best again in the state.

I only made the trip out to the Bluffs once as it was at one time somehow affiliated with Carter Plantation where I play(ed) almost exclusively. It was a super layout and in good shape. I think I remember it being pricey but worth it. It is a shame that great courses go downhill

By the way, that’s the first I’ve seen Pelican Point mentioned in a while. How is it doing? I recall being ok with that course on occasion.

They need someone very wealthy to buy it, honestly the best chance would be a casino to come in. That would attract players and get it into good condition. It certainly is sad though, favorite layout I played while down there along with Quail Hollow up in McComb.

I am guessing there is someone out there. Probably just waiting on Developer and HOA to give up so they could get it for a song. No reason for an outsider to get involved in current situation.

The layout, brand and bones are all there. When I say brand, I mean, people genuinely don't like to talk bad about the course. Even when it is a dumpster fire people still find a way to compliment it. You cannot say that about any other course.

It’s a pretty big up hill climb to get it in nice condition.
There’s 5 acres of greens out there. That’s a ton for greens for 18 holes. They are also Champion turf grass, which is by far the most aggressive and high maintenance Bermuda greens. They’ve been neglected a few times and you just can’t do that....ever....and expect to ever get them back. Re-doing them would cost something extreme and probably will never be done. Your best bet is to overseed them in September (bent) and just run them to the 4th of July and close it till the following fall. Summer greens will never be anything out there.

Real estate is selling fast at the Bluffs as people flee BR which is rapidly declining

But people are not moving to The Bluffs for great golf, only one in five residents at the Bluffs are golf members.

Clean air, natural beauty, zero crime security and excellent public schools are the factors driving resurgence of real estate at The Bluffs.

Professionals leaving Louisiana in droves means golf is going to take a hit as well. It’s sad to hear the Bluffs is doing so poorly.

To this point, there was a billboard on 61 arguing against HOA fees in/at the Bluffs going towards golf. Seems the people there (or moving there) aren’t interested in golf. The irony.

Regarding FRCC, I don’t know how that course even factors into the conversation as it’s pretty much a
Locals only spot. Only time I’ve seen “outsiders” there is for a tourney or if another course is under repair.

Huh? The Bluffs and HOA is a shite show right now.

Owners threatening closure if homeowners don’t give him top dollar and buy it.

Homeowners getting bilked for thousands with nothing being done to keep the place up.

The pool is disgusting. The old clubhouse needs cleaning bad. The management is clueless.

It’s a shite show.

LOL. Clearly you live at The Bluffs and are trying to create your own market via the Jedi Mind Trick.

Funny stuff there bro

I loved playing their in college. 21 and under was a rate of like 30$. Those Friday nights in tiger land before a 9am tee time at the bluffs the next morning we’re glorious days.

The course was fricking awesome last time I played in 2012ish. A lot of holes were downright awesome to play.

I’ve NEVER understood why BREC can’t charge more for out of Parish players! I already pay taxes towards it AND I gotta pay full price? That’s BS

Guys I don’t know who y’all are or what y’all do but me and my wife are both professionals and I love golf way more than an average Joe. Me and my wife make good money but if I play twice a month and it’s $200 a month for green fees to do so then that’s just not going to work for me.

I get it, the economics don’t make sense.

But how the heck do you expect the game to grow or for any future generations to play if it’s economically unfeasible to do so?

Like I just had a son and can’t wait to get a club in his hands but if it’s going to be $200 a round. That just doesn’t make any sense.

I mean most likely I will be joining the bluffs or getting my boy a membership there because my in laws are moving there but like I love Webb for $35 a round.

If affordable and accessible golf grew the game of golf then Baton Rouge would be the Mecca of golf.

There is more to it than that. It has to at some point make financial sense where continuous additional investment makes sense.
