to have never won a major.
I don’t think it’s a big deal, just interesting.

Apparently, it used be only previous winners of the PGA who were invited.

But This is what happens when an entire generation of majors is dominated by one guy.

I feel like there was a 10 year span from around 2001-2011 where he was always a popular pick to win a major.

Yes! He was referred to as: the field

As in Tiger vs. the field

Larry Nelson really got screwed on this. He won a PGA and also was a service member. Never understood why he wasn't picked.

Met Larry Nelson once and told him he got screwed, his reply was very entertaining!

And Larry Nelson was stellar in actual Ryder Cup competition. 9-0 in his first 2 Cups

Was one of my favorite players back in the day.

Still pissed that David Toms hasn't been selected to captain yet also.

David missed out when they passed over him to pick Tom Watson for his second run. That went well...

7-3-2 record and 3-0 in singles. I’d rather someone being a captain with that Ryder Cup record than a major win.

He’s the 90’s version of Matt Kuchar.

Stricker was a hot pick in every major for 10 years and never won. Then it was Kuchar

Now it’s Tony Finau…

No golfer has gotten more mileage out of one major than Couples.

Nelson won 3 majors.

John Daly and Greg Norman won 2 each.

I guess having Nantz in the broadcast booth helps.

Couples was a good player, but his status is elevated beyond what he achieved in the majors.

Hubert Green won 2 majors.
Mark Omeara won 2.

He will win a major.

Finau, I’m not so sure.

He's my favorite golfer, and I do not disagree with you. The HOF was an absolute shock. Does not change my OP though. Still surprised.

Stricker is like hiring David Ross instead of Joe Madden. He's likeable, quiet, and will stick to the script. Not that it will guarantee a win.

Team euro has won 7 of the last nine, only 3 of those 7 captains won majors (olazabal, langer, woosnam) their two losses were by major winners (faldo and Clarke)

I don’t think golf ability has much to do with picking teams. Similar to most professional GMs and coaches haven’t been the greatest players of their respective sport

It’s a free country.

Why is he your favorite?
He has a beautiful swing. Very languid.

Usually winning majors draws fans more.

I guess Ricky Fowler has a lot of fans.

Fred Couples really has an army of fans, but never the resume of an all time great.

His prime was between Jack and Tiger. I guess Faldo and Els won the most majors between 1986 and 1997. Daly won a couple. Payne Stewart- now he would have certainly been a Rhyder Cup captain.

I’m probably missing somebody.
