Going on a trip to Houston in August. I will be staying near Reliant Stadium. Any suggestions on a good golf course in that area?

Wildcat is very close. 2 good 18s. Most prefer Highlands.

I was having this exact conversation yesterday. Our conclusion: Lakes is better course if you are playing once. Highlands is better once you learn the course. Too many blind shots for a first time player on the Highlands.

For other options in South Houston: There aren't any spectacular public courses in that area. I would say Timber Creek is the best in that area. There are a few in Pearland that are playable but nothing to write home about (Country Place, Southwyck, Clear Creek). Same if you go west towards Sugar Land.

Memorial (although I haven't been out there in over a year) is probably the best public course (other than Wildcat) within 20 -30 minutes from Reliant.

North Houston is much, much better for public courses.

Fir sure Wildcat would be your best choice.
You can literally see the stadium from a couple of the holes on the Highland Course.
Being built on an old garbage dump, the drainage is awesome.

Magnolia Creek down in league city is great. It’s 27 holes of links golf and it actually feels like a links course. If it’s windy out there it can be tricky.

Cypress Woods Traditions Course isn't too far away, and its a great course. If you're willing to drive a ways, go check out The Wilderness in Lake Jackson. Love that course. Other than that, I agree with everyone on Wildcat. Played there Saturday at Highlands and there are holes you definitely need to know that layout for a tee shot.

Course is awesome with a stiff wind. They did a great job making it nearly true links with landing areas everywhere. Lot of bump and runs. Would definitely recommend this course in South Houston.

Coming in to say those 2 would be at the top of the list.

Private now, right?

It opened as a public course when I built in League City 12+ years ago. But I thought it went private after the neighborhood and membership filled out.

It's a great course though. It's everything Southwyck wants to be, but can't seem to come close.

Any recommendations near the Woodlands? I have a wedding Friday and want to play a morning round.

I like playing BlackHorse but its a little ways from the Woodlands. Cypresswood, as well but not sure about their status post-Harvey. Plus, the Tiger Woods course. BlueJack?

It was in excellent condition when I played out there a few weeks ago. Both courses open. Temporary club house, but everything else is back up and running.

High meadow ranch would be really good. It’s in Magnolia and I have played it recently. Was in fantastic condition.

Rough is thick right now, can lose balls right off the fairway.

The greens were good.
