Huge win. He obviously has loads of talent. Seems like he has a solid future in golf. To try to prognosticate junior futures when they're still growing into their bodies and figuring it all out is kind of silly. It does seem like Charlie has a great chance based on this though.

Anyone that shoots a 66 in a tournament is elite.

It doesn’t mean he’ll make it on tour, but to scoff at a 66 means you don’t know shite about golf.

ETA I just saw he shot 65 the day before. Happy for him. Lot of pressure on that kid.

To add to that, Streamsong Black is no goat ranch. It's one of the top 50 publicly-accessible courses in America (currently #33 in Golf Digest).

It's generous off the tee (which I am guessing played well for a lot of these teenagers who have 175 - 180+ MPH ball speed but not as much control as someone a bit more seasoning will have), but it's no cakewalk by any means.

Been around plenty of people in this field. Regarded as one of the most elite fields in Junior Golf. Its not the most elite, but doesn't get much bigger than winning an AJGA Invitational in junior golf. People downplaying this really have no clue what they're talking about

I'm sure it was hard for them but the internet and social media wasn't around to tear them down and critique everything they did.

Gary was the only one who tried at the highest levels but he caught plenty of crap for not living up to expectations from his last name.

I feel sorry for the kid, no matter what he does, he will always be compared to his father who is the best golfer to ever live. That's going to be a hard burden to bear, to always have people judging you for how you played compared to your dad. Golf is hard enough without those crazy expectations.

There's definitely going to an element of him having a little Dale Earnhardt, Jr. syndrome. It will mainly come from the Barstool type crowd that hyperventilates every time Tiger birdies one of the first three holes at any tournament he plays in.

Unfortunately, that is a vocal crowd.

Most people will see this and say, "This is a hell of an accomplishment. Hope he continues to trend in the right direction."

Very impressive. However I won 2 AJGA titles as a junior and never sniffed the tour

The Nicklaus kids seemed to handle it just fine.

Unless you suck Tiger and Charlie’s dick on this board, you will get down voted.

He had a great weekend, and this was a big win for him. However, to call him elite right now is silly.

He’s got potential.

Nice for him to win a tournament.

Which colleges are on his list?

He can go to literally anywhere he wants. I’m sure Stanford will be his choice.

Currently he is a top 100 player in his class and I’m think he will only continue to move up those rankings.

Maybe he will go in state at Florida or FSU.

He shot 65 and 66 back to back on a 7200 yard course at 15 years old

How many 15 year olds on the planet can do that? Serious question

For you to say he isn’t elite you would have to say a lot of 15 year olds can do that as well. I don’t think that’s correct. I think it’s a very very small amount. Hence, elite

quote:

a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group

So , let’s hear how many 15 year old golfers can do that

I’m amazed at how good juniors are now.

Maybe there have always been great players, but we get to hear about them on a regular basis.

Golf is hard. Maybe Charlie Woods makes it all the way to PGA Tour, but for now he should be pleased with winning a tournament and playing well.

They are very good. But I think people lose perspective due to media and everything being available for consumption now

There aren’t many human beings period that can shoot 65-66 on a 7200 yard course, much less 15 year olds

PGA tour status takes tremendous talent, hardwork, and some good luck too.

The Reddit “pyramid of golf” that went around several years ago is a good read about levels of golf.

I’ll try to link

Very impressive against a very strong field. The junior and amateur talent these days is ridiculously good. Charlie seems like a pretty humble kid, cheers to him on the win.

They could quit, seen it plenty of times. Played with a guy growing up we were both on the all-city team in middle school but he was a much better player than me in 8th grade. He was dropping rounds in the 60's from the mens tee's at 13-14. He quit playing in HS. He was burnt out. I burnt out in HS too, you get to a point where you realize your talent level is your limit and you know you arent going to be a professional which was our dream. Making 2-3 footers all day is just not fun anymore.
