Ship sticks?

I’m headed down to Cancun in late June and there is a golf course at our resort. Ship sticks is ~$250 there and back. Should I check my clubs with the flight or is there another way to get them there cheaper?

Golf bags are allowed as checked bags on most of the flights I've been on. Usually $50 as my second bag.
ETA: Just don't exceed the 50# or you will be hit with overweight fees.

I almost always fly SW so it’s simply a free checked bag with them. I’ve never had an issue going that route.
United has lost my luggage before on an international trip. That was 10 years ago and I haven’t used them since.

I flew United to San Diego last year with my clubs and it was $50 each way.
Like ell_13 said loosing them is the only thing that scares me. But I ended up getting a ride on my homeowners for all my clubs just because of that, which cost me about $30 a year.

I always check my clubs. I've used ship sticks a couple times, both were flawless.
It's cheaper to check bag. I used ship sticks when traveling for work but play some golf the weekend before. Ship them back to home club rather than haul them around hotels and Ubers on work days.

Resorts usually have rental clubs that are decent. I typically go that route.
It’s kinda fun to demo a new set.

That thought occurred to me as well, but I can’t just use clubs off a rack. I need them 1+ 2*upright. I don’t want to go all the way there and play really shitty due to not having the right clubs.

I used ship sticks once and it was nice. Especially flying with wife and kids and not having to lug a bag of clubs around. But if it’s just you or you and wife then $250 is a couple nice days of drinking and eating.

For what ship sticks cost, you can buy a travel bag and check them easily. Free on southwest. Never had a problem.

If you show up an hour before your flight you will have no problems getting them onto the plane cargo.
I've flown the same flight twice to Cancun and have had no issues. Plus when arrive at the resort they have taken my bag to the golf course for me. Ditto on the way out.
IMO, that price is ridiculous.
15+ years of golf travel and never had an issue and that is $150 you can use in the pro shop to buy swag for the TDGB golf tournament.
*I don't pay for checked bags due to status or cc benefits*

As long as you have a legit travel case I would put them on the plane for $50. $250 is a lot and they’ll be getting there the same way.

Agreed. I do this. The only drawback is about 80% of the time I check them, the airline goes through every pocket and it looks like a 5 year old was messing with your bag.

I have a travel bag and club glove. I then pack my clothes and shoes in said bag and unpack when I get to resort. Usually wrap club heads with towels. Much cheaper than ship sticks and always have my clubs when I shoot 109!
