I'm an LSU fan. I don't blindly root for people based on that. Sam has a problem closing. It is what it is.

Sam picked up $2.5 million today. For second place. That’s on the heels of $950K three weeks ago. I’d say he’s doing just fine.

Burns shot 67 on Sunday at US Open. Second best round of the day. This isn't Nintendo.

Sam played fantastic today. The putt on 17 was a bad as I’ve seen from a pro though. But overall today was not even close to collapsing. He played fantastic

It just never was even close.

The putt on 18 was a great roll just didn’t fall

People saying Burns can’t close are fricking retards. He started the day 7 back. Shot -3, second lowest round of the day. Finished 1 back of the leader. He did what he could in a US open set up, but Clark made the putts he needed to.

No, you are just being an emotional fanboy.

Sam Burns is an incredible golfer. One of the best of the best in the world. But he has a problem closing out tournaments.

100%

Both things can be true.

Is he an exceptional golfer? - absolutely

Does he have trouble closing out tournaments? - absolutely

He missed quite a few very makable putts both yesterday and today that had he sunk half of them he probably wins with how Clark came back today.

He continuously battles and finds himself in the top 10 to top 5s in tournaments but he just can’t get over the hump in signature events or majors. It’s not a personal attack on the young man, it just is what it is.

I’m guessing almost none of you guys have played or still play competitive golf. It’s pretty easy to armchair quarterback stuff like this…but saying his putt was one of the worst you’ve seen is laughably bad. He had a slippery downhill putt on poanna greens late in the afternoon. He misjudged it and missed. He hit a ton of great shots on the last few holes…and was a roll or 2 from a playoff or maybe an outright win.

Exactly. The roll or 2 that continuously doesn’t hole on Sundays. I swear it’s like some of you bbq with Sam burns family the way yall take criticism of the young man personally.

Burns has deserved some criticism from previous tournaments, but he shot 67 today and the leader shot 73, so give him a break. The dude pkayed awesome. Scotty played noticeably worse. Lots of other contenders absolutely wilted.

They will start another thread for the next tournament if Sam has one decent round. Eventually he is gonna win one.

Wow, if you have think he has a problem closing, you obviously have never played golf. He closed great yesterday. Clark just made a better putt on #16. In fact, after Clark hooked his drive on 16, no one thought he would make birdie, but he did. That wasn't same not closing. That was Clark playing better. Sam did miss 3 makable putts down the stretch, but the percentage of makes (among PGA golfers) on those putts (except on Hole 15) was less than 25%. Kim had the same putt as Sam on 17 a few groups later and hit the same exact same putt. Clark had a similar putt on 17 (from a shorter distrance) and missed it on the left. This course was unreal and TV coverage cannot show you how severe the slopes and undulations were.

I stand by my previous comments. Sam is one of the best players on the Tour right now (look at how he played in the Masters and now the Open) and, if you listened to the broadcast team, everyone one of them wants Sam playing on their Ryder Cup team (which is a hugh compliment).

He hasn’t won a tournament since the 2023 match play….

Yesterday he was great overall. But he absolutely does have issues closing

He certainly played his way into position.

Nicklaus had 19 second place finishes in the majors.
It seems like to win you have to put yourself in position a bunch.

IF Sam keeps knocking on the door, he will get a major.

Golf is hard.
Tournament golf is harder.
Major Championship golf is brutal.

And yesterday was not one of those occasions. He started the day 7 strokes back and never once had the lead. He was never in a position to close the tournament out.
