Seen it in other threads, but they sent out the email today :

Rory McIlroy, 24-time PGA TOUR winner including four major titles and currently ranked second in the world, will make his debut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans this year.

McIlroy will team with fellow Irishman Shane Lowry, who himself added a major title to his playing resume when he won The Open Championship in 2019 in his native country.

Rory
Morikawa
Zalatoris
Theegala
Lowry

Some decent names so far for it not being an elevated event. Hopefully it continues. I’m going regardless, I’ve always had a great time.

Horschel is a Zurich guy so I'm sure he and Burns will be back. I guess Homa isn't playing since he's not with Morikawa this year. Will be interesting to see if X and Cantlay play again.

Hopefully announcing Rory this early means they have some more heavy hitters lined up to jump on board over the next month.

I'm not so sure of that. Last three years they have benefited tremendously from being offset from Jazz Fest. Last year 35k on Saturday was the best day ever. This year they are again in direct competition with the first weekend of the fest. It will be interesting to see if they can continue to grow numbers, or if it was a product of the standalone weekends.

Yep. Everyone loves a fun non competitive hit and giggle every now and then. No points awarded but all for good fun

Are you trying to be funny?
The Zurich Classic does give Fedex cup points and a two year exemption for the winners.

They get FedEx cup points but no OWGR points as far as I know.

This is going to turn into a PGA / LIV debate I’m sure.

Tell me about those OWGR points….

As for Rory playing I kinda wish he wasn’t. I bring my son every year. The less crowd the better. If Tiger actually commits I’m screwed

Pulling for him and Matt. Was cool to watch him on full swing. Wouldn’t be surprised if they win honestly

This is awesome. I will be volunteering for this event. My assignment is standard bearer. (The guy who walks with the little sign with the players scores on it.) Dude I'd shite my pants if I get Rorys group

Just out of curiosity because I considered volunteering, how much say over which assignment you get do you have? I’m all for being inside the ropes shot link maybe, but don’t really have an interest being stuck on one hole all day for a week.

I signed up for the whole week. I told them I was wide open and I ended up getting standard bearer for Thursday 12:30 to 5:30 and Sunday 10:50 to 3:50. So Ism not sure. I'm guessing that they had a lot of volunteers seeing how little i got. There was different things to sign up for as well.
