Wahoo ... proverbial question. Is it worth that much money? I'm planning on next year, and I want to go, but GEEEEZ, that's a lot of coin to drop.
Was planning on going with another couple to cut some expences. Two golfers, two spouses. Drive down from San Fran. Stop at Pasatiempo. Play. Dinner.
Head to Pebble. Play as much as I can.
Walk back to Florida with no money to my name.

Pacific Grove links is fun. Aka poor man’s pebble. Don’t hit it in the iceplant! And I disagree about dining in Carmel (proper), it’s all about old folks and tourists in my opinion. The beach is sooooo great….and cold as hell

I mean are any of these elite courses worth the money?
It’s in my personal top 10 and they have the hands down best bunkers I’ve played. It rained steady and at times heavy from hole 9 to finish. Was in a bunker on 17 and it played like fluffy powder.
I think it’s worth it to pay because it’s likely the only Mackenzie design I'll get to play, the variety of the holes, the bunkers, and condition are all excellent.
I mean that money has long been gone but the memory remains.

Carmel by the Sea is a town correct? Any particular spot?

Trying to plan trip. For those going or who went, where did you stay and sis you use someone or just book yourself? Shipping lines or flying with? Thanks!

You have to play Pebble once. I stayed on the premises at Inn on Spanish Bay all 3 trips as a part of a group that always gets tee times the week prior to the Clambake.
You know the course before you play it, and you will remember your shots as you see the course played in the future on TV by the pros and other amateurs.
It’s not a super penal layout. It can be played by amateurs, much like the Old Course. But exactly opposite of the Old Course, it has 6 of the top 10 smallest greens played on the PGA Tour.

Definitely do it yourself.
I recommend flying into Monterrey.
In August, I’m sharing a house on Pacific Grove w 4 other couples for a week.
We plan on playing PG once or twice, Poppy Hills, the Hay Course at Pebble, and Pebble Beach (splitting up as walk ons). We’ve already played the other courses, outside of Cypress
For tee times at Pebble, you usually have to stay on premises.

Thanks! I’ve been to PB and area visiting but never played. I’ll either be single player or maybe double. Is walking on possible?

If anyone has a vacancy, I can fill in.

I have played pebble as a single. I called the day before to speak w the bookers to get an idea of what times would potentially be available the following day.
Then you call early in the morning to book. I don’t remember if they gave me an option to get a caddy or not, but I played in a cart with a threesome.
They had a caddy and once we were into the round a bit I was able to get some tips from him especially on some putts and how much club to hit into the wind. I made sure that I never interfered with the caddy helping the other guys and the caddy was cool about it and we all had a great time.
I threw him some cash at the end, obviously.
I still think the best experience is walking the course w a caddy.
Has anyone played the Bayonet courses? I’ve heard they were solid.

Bayonet and Blackhorse are both solid up on the old Fort Ord. Bayonet is long. Quail Lodge is nice out in Carmel Valley. After living there a couple of years I never really cared for Del Monte. Poppy Hills was our go to since we were in the Northern Ca golf association
Actually if you go up there you might as well play 36. Fun day with nice views of the Pacific. This was the last stop for many soldiers on their way to war

I played one of them a couple of years ago after doing some research. I enjoyed it and for the price it’s hard to beat

Carmel Valley Ranch golf course is the course in the background of the Morgan Stanley commercial with Justin Rose and C. Woods playing on repeat right now during the Players. Gives you a good feel for the back nine of that course.

I stayed at Quail Lodge. Course was fun and it was close to everything.

Very true.
I suppose there is a list that you just play and suck it up on the costs.
It's on my list. Even my wife is encouraging me to go.

No pics.
Looking at next year.

You won’t be disappointed. Its better than Spanish Bay, Poppy, and I liked it more than Spyglass.
Next time I hit Monterrey I want to play Pasa again and try Pacific Grove. Really wish I could get on Cypress.

As far as the cost, it is crazy expensive, but you’re buying memories and history. In all honesty, I’d probably hate Augusta due to the elevation changes which are pretty foreign to me, but would savor every shot, and get my money’s worth on shots!
