Played quite a bit when I was 19 or 20. Put it down and picked it back up this last year at 32. Bought some good irons, a good driver and a new bag. Still have a few other clubs I want to pick up but my current putter is the most dated and I think it can arguably help my game the most as far as clubs go.

It's hard to get a gauge for what I would like at the course. In the stores, I like the Odyssey White Hot putters. I like the traditional toe balanced putters. Anything I should look for before buying a putter. I like a slightly taller putter. Has anyone ever regretted the putter they bought?

I bought a spider thinking it would be helpful. No other reason. Tried it out a few times before I bought it. Ended up not being for me.

I was in the same boat as you. Couldn’t find a putter that I like after getting back into golf. Bought a cheap ping but kept trying different outlets everywhere they sold them. Found a used Odyssey that just felt right for $60.

I think you will find one that just sets up right for you if you try enough.

Some pro shops may let you take them into the putting green for a tryout.

Some experts may have a better opinion than mine, but.... putters are like bowling balls.
They all work. One may fit your style better than another, but once they are fit for you, you can learn how to use and perform well with any of them with some practice.

Now, can you squeeze out a slightly better performance by having the "RIGHT" one? Probably yes.
But without professional level skill and execution, anyone would be hard-pressed to determine if the small difference is with the tool or the user.

So..... Most advice I have heard is find the one that you like the best (for whatever reason) and practice with it. Through use, you will gain self-confidence in using it, and the practice and confidence will have the biggest impact on your game. (Not necessarily the putter).

Haha. I kinda chuckled when I wrote that. I don't think a new putter is going to make my line selection or speed any better or worse. Mostly I just WANT a new putter since it's the most out of date club in my bag but I'm not particularly a seasoned player so I wasn't sure if there was something to look for or not look for. All I know is belly putters are kinda ghey looking. Not interested in those.

I just ordered some new golf shoes. Been playing in tennis shoes and I have a fair amount of power in my shot and my feet are slipping all over the place. I won't know what to do with myself once I stay planted. That's probably where I'll gain a fair amount of consistency.

The last few pieces I need is a fairway wood and a set of wedges. My set came with a pitching wedge but I like a sand wedge loft also and it didn't come with that.

On this board? Club whores galore around here brother.

An Odyssey is a fine putter. Pick one you like and start playing. As you get more into it, you may want to try something different. Soon, you will be a club whore like the rest of us.

Agreed.

This will help you more than the putter.
I just bought a new pair. It seems like there are so many more choices than there used to be.

I've just always used my long irons or fairway woods, but a lot of people swear by the fairway wood. I'm just indifferent about it.

I have bought 2 extra wedges: sand wedge and gap wedge.
It was tough trying to use the PW for feel shots under 130. Now, I can strike with confidence, and since I don't play all of the time, it makes the short game experience more enjoyable for me. (Knowing my distances and that mistakes are not a combination of ball striking AND lack of feel).

Did the safe for it arrive? Did the security guard pass his physical?

If you like a slightly taller putter, figure out what model you like and then order directly from the manufacturer. I also like a slightly taller putter, so I got an Odyssey putter that was specifically ordered to 35.5, which you can’t buy in stores, directly through Odyssey on-line. Have putted better with this one than any other putter before.

Putters are all about what gives you confidence when you set it behind the ball. You would do well to test out a blade, half-mallet and a mallet to narrow down the type of putter style you like first, and then settle on a particular model.

Also, one of the biggest overlooked things is picking out the putter grip that you like. Put a $15-$20 new grip on an old putter and it can change your opinion of the putter.

My buddy bought a new putter about a year ago and has let me borrow his Taylormade Daddy Long Legs.

At first I loved it because i was using a POS before, but now I can't stand it.

It feels so, idk, soft. Almost like you're striking the ball with rubber. I can't get a feel for anything on halfway fast greens.

I REALLY like the look of the Futura X5.

Are there any similarity shaped putters to this model? I wouldn't be opposed to buying this putter, but a few more options would be appropriated.

This means a lot of different things now. I can't stand those soft inserts they put in the "select" stuff. Scotty used to say that only lazy putter makers made putters with inserts like that. Go figure. The older stuff was great and obviously he's created a high end market for the tour-only stuff. But EVNRoll, Odyssey, Ping, Betti, etc. all make really good putters. None of them help you judge the breaks and the speed though.

This is going to make me look like some jort wearing horrible golfer, but I'm pretty good, just never took the game seriously.

But golf shoes and learning to hit wedges took my game to a completely different level.

I wore boat shoes for really long time. Buying golf shoes helped more than I would have ever thought. It allowed me to be so much more aggressive with my swing. I immediately felt like an idiot for waiting so long to get them

And like you, I was hitting my PW an every shot from 100-145. I hit it really well, but obviously it's REALLY hard to be consistent. Grabbed some wedges and my goodness, it has made golf so much more enjoyable. I held off for so long because I just couldn't hit them very well.

I'm no stranger to piss poor rounds of golf, but now, any time I'm having a good go of it I flirt with and shoot in the 70s. Those 2 things completely changed my game.

The X5?

Do you like it? All the video reviews I've seen say it has a really nice "click" or solid feel at impact.

That's the most important to me right now. I just also happen to love the look of that putter.
