I feel like i’ve tried everything from youtube tips, countless range balls, to buying an over priced driving iron and I just can’t hit the ball low. You fellas have any tricks?

Assuming you mean off the tee… put the ball back in your stance, but despite what you’d think, you want to tee it a bit higher. The reason is it will force you to hold your hinge a bit through impact, because if you release the club , you’ll go under the ball. Other than that, take a full back swing, but try to stop your follow through waist high.

Ive given up on it. Im a mid-high ball player. I just grab extra club and let it rip.

Trying to hit a stinger puts too many thought in my head which is a recipe for "the laterals."

Not necessarily just off the tee. I will give that a try!

I do almost everything you said, except I tee the ball very low. I have the ball just in front of my right big toe, my back foot. I swing hard and down and I rarely miss this shot.
Its all the others that give me fits!

I have given up on trying to hit any shape or trajectory other than what my swing will produce. As Chappy said it only causes you to have issues with your swing you don't need.

Don't put the ball in the back of your stance that will increase the spin rate making it actually harder to keep the ball down. Move the ball to the middle of your stance and lean the shaft a little forward of the ball and shift your weight ever so slightly onto your left foot (give you're right handed). Have your hands finish a lower and across your body like you're trying to hit a cut. Don't try to kill it either as that increases spin, let the club do all of the work. Just make sure you get a solid rotation and hands lead through the ball.

Make sure the shaft you have in the club is lower launch/high kick/and or tip stiff. Those little details will help as well.

Hit the ball on the bottom groove. Works every time

For me it's ball back of the stance, normal backswing, finish as low as I can without releasing the club for as long as possible.

Yikes. You definitely need this shot in your bag if you play Texas golf. I always flush this shot when my front leg feels like it's got roots 3 feet in the ground and my weight is forward. How stable is your head when you swing? You might be leaning back too much on impact.

I can blame the little tree lined goat ranch by my house for learning this shot. For me, ball is just inside my back heel in my stance. Club face is opened or closed depending on a cut or draw. 3/4 swing with a 5 iron. I focus purely on impact and don't even think twice about follow through. It's like I'm slapshotting it out of there.

are your clubs fitted to you? Like a real fitting with a trackman not just hitting some balls at a net or on the range before buying.

Try to swing a little flatter & keep your hands out of the shot. Think about swinging with only your big muscles. Keep any hinges out of your hands/wrists.

I spent hours and hours on the range as a teenager perfecting this shot. It took a ton of work, but once you get the feel, it’s a great tool to have.

Start with a long iron, ball middle of stance, 3/4 back while trying to avoid a big hinge, hard through, hitting down on the ball while keeping the hands in front, 3/4 follow through.

Get on the range and find the feel that works for you.

Not sure what your swing trends are but it is absolutely impossible to hit a stinger if your left wrist isn’t ‘pointing down’ at impact.

If you’re a caster, then good luck. You’ve got almost no hope of stinging one.

I’m not a “caster” but i’m consistently almost to the point of not enough shaft lean. I kinda live there and if I screw with it, my swing goes to crap. I’ll give all these tips a try, thanks!

It’s mental

I get to the top of my backswing and say “don’t shank it, arse hole”

Low stingers every time.

I stand closer to the ball and think of swinging with soft arms which helps with lag and swinging a little shallower which produces the low spin stinger. I dont particularly care to hit one that starts out low and rises with tons of spin like you see on a lot of youtube videos.
