Sources have told The Post that LIV, which had its Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) money pulled this year, is on the cusp of landing new investors to keep the tour alive into 2027 and beyond.
quote:
According to sources, LIV Golf has received “multiple written commitments from blue-chip investment firms that would serve as anchor investors to support the league’’ going forward.
quote:
The prospective “anchor’’ investors “have submitted qualified term sheets’’ that would “support the formation of a financing syndicate with sufficient backing to capitalize’’ what LIV Golf is calling “LIV 2.0.’’ LIV has also attracted interest from additional investors looking to participate alongside those anchor investors, according to the sources.

It will be interesting to see what happens if they actually play in 2027. Multiple LIV players already planning to not return regardless of the funding. Are they going back to 54 players? Do they still get OWGR points? Who knows

$250-300 million for the first anchor investor with additional investors increasing that amount further. Liberty Media/Apple are rumored initial investors. LibertyMedia owns F-1 and Apple brings the streaming service. The PGA has been on an all-out blitz the last three weeks to try and derail the deal.
Rahm, Bryson, Cam, Bubba, and other captains will have equity interest with a closing date in September after the Trump National Bedminster event.
However I'll wait for LSUpride to opine in with his jaundiced eye to tell me this is all BS.

Would be a great deal for LIV.

Its been very obvious the captains were given the green light as they have been posting social media content by the hour for the last week. I'm sure the Investors also gave them assurances which is why you are seeing social media clip after clip by some teams who haven't posted in weeks in some cases.
I'll add to this that Rory's absence and his heel like personality would fit into LIV 2.0.

Would that even cover their current debt?
That isn’t even worth the value of Rahms Deal
They currently have 100s of millions in loans to PIf alone. Why do yall do this to yourselves? Yall have allowed me to keep winning and winning and winning
Please for the love of god keep your hope going

Safe to assume all of their old deals are dead without PIF. They will sign new deals for 2027

Good job by Scott O’Neil if true. Devil still very much in details. Mainly where they are shaving off $800m in annual operating costs and addressing the outstanding debt and legal troubles.
And what guarantees there are for additional funds in 2028 and going forward. Or is the initial investment supposed to stretch multiple years?
What are the investors getting in return for the investment and if there’s additional investment do they get more return?

It cost roughly 1.5 BILLION PER YEAR for the pga tour to run one year
What the hell is 300 million in investments going to do for a league that can’t generate its own revenue? To truly make that work total purses would need to be like 500k at most
That isn’t even taken into account the 100s of millions in debt they are in
How in the blue hell do you run that tour? Realistically they would need about 3-5 BILLION in initial investment to keep this thing rolling for jsut a few more years

They also host like 4 times more events and have like 1,300 employees
Not that LIV will make it, but what a dumb comparison

Livs expenses were 1.2 billion last year. Want to try again?
Now they are going to be ok with a total investment being 1/3 of their former ANNUAL expense?
It’s a joke . Even pro LIv people, who aren’t trolling, have no idea what can realistically done on 300 million

How much of that was guaranteed player payments?
There’s clearly going to have to be a change in strategic direction if they want to survive. I was only pointing out how absurd your comparison was. It’s a totally different model

What’s absurd is pretending it will be “LIV 2.0”
If they truly want to have a real league on 300 million investment(I have serious doubts they actually do), it will be so far from anything remotely similar to LIV calling it 2.0 is hilarious
It would effectively have to operate like a mini tour

This + a significant concession on purses from whatever players hang around is about the only way this works.
Pick about 15 spots where they had a little traction, reduce the purses to like 10 mil tops, stick it on streaming service, and see if you can get some eyeballs on it and turn a profit.

The prevailing sentiment going around seems to be that cutting events down from 14 to 10 and lowering purses to around ten million will get you there if the players forgo guaranteed payments.
Maybe that math adds up. The question then becomes whether players are willing to play for very little to no world ranking points with no guaranteed money and purses significantly less than what’s available on the PGA tour.
Maybe they have nowhere else to go and it’ll be too hard to access the pga tour money so they’re stuck? Maybe they get equity. Although who gets equity and how much? Just the captains? So everyone else has no guaranteed money? What happens in 2028 when they need another capital infusion, is the players equity diluted?

So just to be clear, it’ll operate nothing like the PGA Tour which you used as your reference
Posted on 7/29/26 at 7:52 pm to CPA Yung Boi
Yes, I referenced what it costs to try and tun a real golf operation. Cited by both PGA tour and LIV . It’s in the billions per year
That’s all that is relevant for the golf board . For 250 million in a total investment LIV wouldn’t be something worth a duck fart
And someone mentioned turning a profit and eyeballs. I don’t know how stripping your budget by 1,000% or so will make gathering eyeballs any easier…
LIv is fighting a completely losing battle out of spite and hubris I suppose.
