JC, people have a bone to pick with Jack Nicklaus of all people now. That is absurd.

Monahan remaining in charge leads me to believe the Saudis reached out for this deal.
The PIF chairs the board, but in any case, yes I'm sure LIV approached the PGA. They probably did a long time ago, and had this as a goal the entire time. This is exactly what they wanted. It's hard for anyone who took the "blood money" angle to see it another way. This legitimizes the LIV tour and the Saudis. It gives them control and a vested interest in the game of golf, not just the LIV tour.
In the grand scheme, you had the LIV tour pushing a coexist message, and the PGA Tour pushing the 9/11 families message. It makes no sense to consider the latter the winner in any sense, perception or otherwise.

The DP Tour just told the Golf Channel that all suspensions and fines imposed on LIV Golfers still remain in place and will be enforced. They can pay the fines and serve the suspensions and be eligible for reinstatement. Some may choose not to. So are there 2 Pro series going further beyond 2024 ?

Jay is a huge winner in this, and he is. Only a fool would deny jay don’t play this masterfully for himself
Let's see how Jay comes out of this meeting this afternoon. The PGA Tour players are obviously pissed and have many questions. If he doesn't have good answers, they may remove him at some point soon.

The Saudi chaired board may shite can Jay the minute the ink dries on the final agreement. I'm not sure who would even come to his defense at this point. Rory?

I think there is some truth to this. LIV's success probably wasn't meeting (Saudi) expectations. That said, the PGA was probably reading the tea leaves and knew they couldn't withstand another round of "poaching" by LIV. And the Tour couldn't compete with Saudi money regarding player compensation.
agreed. But both leagues get a win/win on this also which is why its pointless for either side to claim "victory".

up. If LIV golf was taking off like they hoped there’s no reason to make the deal. They would have had more defectors lined up and eventually a nice TV deal

It doesn’t matter now, the fans for the first time in like 2 years finally get a win in this whole debacle. The LIV / PGA BS goes away and we get to see the best play each other weekly.

Now, they wouldn’t want to do that just like the chair isn’t going to shite can the ceo he just signed off on

Reading some LIV golf tweets, they're not sure if they want any part of this merger either. They're waiting to hear from Norman. It appears that the money has sold out the players from both tours.

Seems Norman is out of the loop on this. Doubt they get much information from him.

Once everyone gets through the huffing and the puffing and the emotionalism of seeing a change to whatever flag they originally planted, this really is a win for everyone involved.
PGA Tour - they keep their governance, they get their players back, they get an influx of new cash which takes pressure off of their sponsors and will make it easier to get sponsors.
Saudis - they get into the international golf world in a business that actually can make money
players - they will get more money in the long run and the ability to play a more international schedule for those who wish to. Yeah, some guys missed out on some money in the last 2 years, but the future will make up for that.
fans - we get to see everyone playing together again.
The only real losers right now are the people whose opposition to the Saudis is political or moral. But how many people are genuinely opposed to them and not just using that as a tool to oppose LIV Golf in general?
Other losers could be if some long-standing tournaments go bye-bye, but that's a discussion for later.

One thing I think we all can agree on is that this has been one big shitshow from start to finish...

They cannot possibly be dumb enough not to realize that something like this was a possibility from the get-go, especially since the revenue has been dry on their end. The goal of the Saudis was always to make money; LIV Golf wasn't making money.

You need to learn when to quit.

I still don’t know what I need “to quit” exactly?
I never gave a shite about the pga tour or liv, Saudi money, or how much the players make. I simply thought liv was a shite product and having great players not all play together sucked
Now we have all the players back together(hopefully) like before.

The AFC merged into the NFL and NFC. My father in law said some of the parellels have been interesting to see in both mergers. Obviously not the exact same thing but certainly something we all thought would be the end game here.

I think the shite show perception is purely media induced. The Golf Channel has done nothing but wrap themselves in 911 and cast aspersions all morning and afternoon.

Serious question. Could Tiger and the other pga tour players start a new tour? I mean tiger has deep pockets and unlimited sponsor connections
Posted on 6/6/23 at 12:47 pm to lsupride87
I feel like we could easily find threads where that’s what our main argument was.
The best players in the world were playing together far less often. I don’t understand how that was good as golf fans. Now they’ll play together more. Solely from a golf fan standpoint, why is that a bad thing?

Replace "Tiger" with "Greg Norman" and it's called LIV Golf. We now see where that led.
