It really surprises me Augusta national caved on this women’s Am

I really don’t see the reasoning behind it outside of caving to PC America.
I mean couple years ago women couldn’t even join so they let a black female in.
I don’t see the problem with being exclusive and I’m not sure they really “caved” but somebody somehwere came up with the idea, presented it thy discussed it and now it’s on tv.
I’d like to have been in on those discussions to hear what was said.

quote:Well, that's what you are accusing them of doing. They are also hosting drive chip and putt. I think they are very happy to host this amateur event.

You don’t see the reasoning behind letting women play a golf course? It’s still extremely exclusive.

There are several positions that are "essentially" automatic invites into the club.
CEO's of JP Morgan, ATT, IBM, etc.
Virginia Rometty is CEO of IBM. She's in.
Once that happened, Darla Moore and Condoleeza Rice are already players in that particular sphere of influence. So, they were natural fits.
As for the Women's tournaments at Augusta, it's their club, and they can do whatever they want.
Maybe part of it is the members have changed their stances on the policy.
Maybe they see women's golf as a huge growth opportunity for the game.
In any case, it's not that big of a deal. The world is much more accepting and tolerant than it's ever been, and all of this screaming about -isms is nonsense.

Kids Drive chip putt isn’t same as a woman’s Am

They claim that there was never a policy against women joining. They always said that they wouldn't be told that they had to have a female member.

they opened the door to shite like this once they started admitting female members

Every sport is trying to reach for the women fans. Sunday Night Baseball has a woman on the broadcast team in the booth and I mean it just isn't good baseball watching. It isn't just her but it is bad. In philly last week her role was basically describing A Rod and her eating a philly cheesesteak.

Augusta national doesn’t need or desire “reaching” fans

I'm just enjoying being introduced to this Sierra Brooks girl.

They only get to play Augusta one of the three rounds, so they aren’t letting these ladies get too much of the action

I can't believe you are really bothered by this.

You are correct they don't need it but I disagree that they don't desire fan growth. They clearly do by these moves.

True. The first two rounds were at Champions Retreat which is a pretty nice place itself.

On the other hand, I think it fits beautifully within their tradition of championing amateur golf while maintaining their aura of ultra-elite exclusivity and unparalleled brand.
Overnight, it became either the most or second-most (behind the US Am) elite women's am event in the world. It's a truly international event.
Women's golf has real money now, and it's the most natural avenue for continued growth in the game.

The guy who's vision it was for Augusta and The Masters was the most decorated career amateur golfer ever. I don't think having an amateur event at Augusta is out of their scope of values whether it be for men or women.
