Divot rule. Lift clean and place within a club length no nearer the hole.

Agree with another poster it should be considered GUR. You shouldn’t be penalized for hitting it in the fairway.

man I've playing as a member and my course now for 2+ years. outside of some group scrambles etc., i had never really played in a real golf tournament.

my first tournament this year, ball down etc., i used 3w off the tee most of the day just for accuracy purposes, and crushed it all day.......other than landing in multiple divots. first shot i had to hit out of the divot ruined me mentally with my irons the rest of the round.

Divots are ground under repair

While I totally agree. Again, I agree, I can see where there would be arguments over whether or not something is actually a divot, and when a divot repairs itself enough to no longer be a divot.

Golf is meant to be a game of honor. Just about everyone knows when they’re in an actual divot. Will some people overplay it to their advantage? Of course. They do that with bad drops, foot wedges, etc. But people who play the game right shouldn’t accept this penalty just because some people are untrustworthy.

Even with the recent OB rule change, a lot of amateur's don't play it correctly.

The new OB rule is a local rule and has to be adopted by the course you're playing in order to be in effect.

Hear me out… lift clean and place in the fairway all the time. I don’t think you should be penalized if you’re in the fairway. That takes care of divots and mud balls.

You are correct about that.

I believe what is the reasoning for such a penal rule when most of golfers don't use it correctly.

Golfers who struggle to break 100 — it has been estimated that fewer than 25 percent of all golfers ever make it .

Y’all must play in a bunch of real tournaments. We just enjoy the day, take a 1 stroke drop for OB and kick our balls out of the divots. Life’s too short. Now go brag about that low score.

How we play too. Distance off the tee for OB and hazards - one stroke penalty.

As long as you remain on the designated tee box, I feel like you should be able to tee off as far back from the tee markers as you want.

I already do that! I don't care if I back up 5 yards.

This is how we play too. I actually didn't know it was technically wrong...
