If I built a range would it get used?
What would that cost I wonder?

Wish we had better range opportunities

Where would it be?

Also a good idea to describe your range a bit...
Would it be a wide open field or would there be greens to hit towards?

My favorite approach to a driving range is at Tenison Park here in Dallas. There's about 40 designated spots to hit from with 7 greens as targets. Each spot has a yardage card so you get a good idea of how far you're actually hitting the ball. Only thing I don't love is that you hit off those nice mats and they're so forgiving

For the love of god, if you do, put lights on it

Make the down field portion of the range drain well. Turf would be ideal, but if you own a range that is just a range, it should never close.

Also, a good short game area, bar/grill would be cool.

But I clearly like spending your money lol

While we're at it, why don't we add a covered awning over some mats so it truly never closes.

I’m gonna build one that has lights and is open till midnight on the weekend. It will also have mats and a canopy over the mats cuz frick rain. It will also have more than 3 flags to hit to. I will call it “The Lit Range” because that’s what the kids say.

Something as simple as this would be great. Basically just a regular range but sell beer. You buy a bucket of beer and you get a small bucket of balls with it.

I'm in if there's a chipping/putting area. How much money you want?

This one sounds perfect.
Probably more of a one level top golf in scope. But with grass and a putting green. May not be able to find a big enough space to add the pitching area tho that would be sick

I know me and my buddies would be there at least once a week, probably more if in a good location. If it was a lit range and open later, that would be awesome. I work in plaquemine, live in BR, and typically dont get home until 5 or later because of that damn bridge traffic. LSU is the only driving range near me and it closes too early for me to go during the week.

If you do can you make a monthly membership where you pay once a month and get to hit as much as you want. Then you make more money off of selling beer and food. Sounds like a great business model to me.

5050 Acorn inside the loop in Houston is an absolute dump and the balls are so worn out they have zero dimples. $14 for bucket of 120, $12 for bucket of 100. There is grass but it is like the grass in your backyard.

However, you can buy beer and they play music...steak night each week as well.

Place is always packed. They must be making money hand over fist.

Not that it's feasible, but the driving range lakes with floating targets have always interested me. seems like their popping up more often too. wonder how/if those places retrieve their balls

Depends on location I'd think.

We used to have one at North Park out here in Walker/Denham that I hardly ever saw anyone use. But there was times when I drove up and it was closed randomly, didn't matter the time or day. And I'm pretty sure those range balls had seen better days. But it was like $8 for a huge bucket of balls

Very true, it is incredibly terrible..they advertise that you can hit off grass (when ranges around are astro turf) but that is false advertising, since you're actually hitting off hard dirt

the aqua ranges use floating golf balls that are usually restricted flight balls. meaning the ball only travels about 175 yards regardless of club. the wind or current from fountains / bubblers push the balls to the edge and picked up with dip nets.

The city park range in New Orleans is solid. Nothing fancy but stays open late, has covered mats, and an area to hit off grass (although the grass is never well kept). If you buy a large bucket I believe you get $2 off of beer or something like that.

When I lived there I’d spend 2-3 nights a week after work hitting until 9-10pm and there were always people there. It’s crazy that Baton Rouge doesn’t have a similar range option.

These guys have done it right. Driving range that is the perfect size and lit. Have a few options for types of range balls. Massive putting greens, chipping areas and COLD arse BEERS.
