If Lane was 100% guaranteed to come to LSU, I wouldnt mind him coaching the playoffs. We’d go thru early signing period without a head coach (officially), and potentially miss the only transfer portal period Jan. 2-16th. But honestly do we have real expectations in Year 1 anyway? Would it be the end of the world if we missed out on a couple transfer players in year 1? I doubt it would make much of a difference in the long run.

With Media Day taking place today, players took photos and videos for the upcoming season. Since I am one of 12 people who care about jersey numbers, here are the updated ones I noticed. Mostly summer enrollee freshmen and new transfers, but a couple number changes from the spring too. Let me know if I missed any.

re: Pitchers who have yet to appear

Athletes can regularly run and sprint on an ACL just a few months post-surgery. But when it comes to putting high lateral strain on the knee, that's what takes time to build up. When I see a pitcher go through his motion (yes i watch baseball, crazy) I dont see a ton of side to side movement- mostly forward. So I am wondering if the recovery time for a non-lateral-movement-heavy athlete is less.
Torn ACL back in the summer and didnt pitch at all in the fall. How much does a pitcher need his ACL? He's not cutting on a dime like a running back. ACL recovery times have shrunk significantly in the last 10 or so years for football players. I wonder if he will be rehabbed and ready for the middle or end of the season.

re: Looking for house to buy

There is a lot to learn with buying and owning a home. It is a lifelong journey and you will never stop learning. Tackle problems one at a time, youtube is your friend.

For now, find out what you can actually afford. Then find a style you enjoy. You're going to spend six figures on this thing, you might as well enjoy living in the house. Then make sure you're buying in an area that generally appreciates well. That's more money in your pocket. You can find the sale history of a prospective home, and use that information to see about how much that home appreciates per year.

A ton of good info on youtube

re: Coils on AC are frozen

Posted by FeeshTacos on 6/20/23 at 8:36 am to
I just had this issue for the last few months. Evaporator coil would ice up and the AC system couldn't keep up.

From my googling, that happens because either

1. There is a lack of airflow across the evaporator coil, causing the "coolness" to freeze condensation onto the coil. As the coil becomes a frozen block of ice, it becomes harder and harder for air to pass through, eventually causing your system to not be able to run effectively until you melt the ice block. Other posters in this thread have described how best to do that - turn the system off and run your fan continuously for ~ 1 hour.

2. There is a lack of sufficient coolant in your system. Ideal gas law tells us pressure and temperature are positively correlated, meaning as one decreases, so does the other. In a system low on coolant, the pressure in the coolant line significantly decreases, causing the temperature of the line to significantly decrease as well. This decreased temperature on the coolant line causes your line to freeze that condensation from the air onto the line, from your compressor all the way to your evaporator coil. This lack of pressure also puts undue stress on your compressor since it's having to work so hard and for longer to just maintain whatever pressure it can.

I personally was short several pounds of R22 coolant in my line. Rather than pay the ~$1500 it costs these days to refill it and fix the leak, I just bought a new system. Rather bite the bullet now on the new system than have paid the money to refill the old coolant and then have to buy a new system right after anyway (my system was about 20 years old).

If One Hour Air is one of the more expensive places, can you give any guidance on some of the better-priced companies?

R22 Prices

Posted by FeeshTacos on 5/13/23 at 2:34 pm
I have an older 4 ton AC system, installed ~1997 that runs on R22 coolant. It has been poorly cooling the last week or so, and I figured it was poor airflow from a dirty filter. Replaced my air filter and called a tech from One Hour Heating and Air. He cleaned the evaporator and condenser coils but said I was about 5-6 pounds low on my R22 coolant and had a leak somewhere. Buddy wanted > $2000 for 5 lbs of coolant installed. Some quick googling suggested that is way too much money, it should really be ~$1000.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a company that will refill my coolant and fix the leak for a more competitive price?

UA All-American Game Results?

Posted by FeeshTacos on 1/4/23 at 9:39 am
Has anyone found anything regarding how our guys did in the game? I know we have some practice clips and the game itself really doesn't matter, but I haven't really been able to find anything regarding if our commits made any plays in the game.
Ramos is a decent college kicker. Not great, but accurate enough. He is not Cole Tracy or Cade York, obviously. But at least he's not Connor Culp, Cameron Gamble, or any of the other string of below-average kickers we've had in years past. I'd say he's at least average for a college kicker, and I'm okay with that.

Firman NG Hose Connection

Posted by FeeshTacos on 9/9/22 at 3:24 pm
I do not have a gas grill connection in my back yard, so i had a plumber install an additional valve on my NG meter so I can connect a hose to it and into my backyard to where the generator would sit. I am having difficulty finding the fittings and hoses that would work for my setup.

The meter side has 1" pipe and a female connection, and the Firman has a 3/8" male inlet.

How can I accept NG from this 1" pipe and get it down to the 3/8" size on the Firman?

Much appreciated
Your house painter is smart!

2 Tesla power wall batteries(standard order on tesla website): $18,500, 2 x 13.5 kwh.(plus you have to buy the roof panels as well, which is an additional 40k) Comes out to $685/kwh

1 F-150 Lightning extended range XLT: $81,000, 131 kwh. Comes out to $618/kwh and like I said.... it doubles as a truck :D
Here's a wildcard for you: the Ford F-150 Lightning. It can backfeed your panel up to 9600W and when you look at how much battery capacity it has, it is a much better $/amp-hour value than a tesla power wall. It also doubles as a truck :D

re: Window AC

Posted by FeeshTacos on 7/13/22 at 10:23 am to
You can get a casement window AC unit, which are thinner and taller, but those tend to be a lot more expensive than a standard window unit.

In a pinch like a hurricane or something, you can fit a regular window unit into your east-west window and cut a piece of plywood to close the gap and hold in place the window unit on top.
Quoted by uShip for $670.

Comparing that to driving myself both ways, gas would run around $350 (assuming 20 mpg and $5 a gallon), leaving a difference of $320. 20+ hours of driving to save $320, not really worth it to me personally.

Looks like this might be the way to go.
Unique situation here- a buddy of mine works at the parent company of a well known tool brand and can get me their electric ZTR mower for $1900 ($4500 retail) using his employee discount. The trouble is, he’s located in Greenville SC and I’m in BR. They cannot ship or deliver it to me from there, it must be picked up in South Carolina.

So what do y’all think is the best way for me to get this thing to my house while still being worth all the trouble? That is, for less than the $2600 discount I would be getting.

I am thinking I could fly there, rent a trailer, and bring it to BR that way.

Or borrow a family member’s trailer and drive up there myself and get it myself. 10 hour drive both ways.

Or hire a moving company to do it for me.

Thoughts?

You can do some of the legwork yourself by buying an outlet tester and watching a couple youtube videos on how to wire a receptacle. Some might be an easy fix- like a loose connection. Others where the wire might be broken somewhere else, I would go ahead and hire someone to fix/figure out/sweat up in the attic for.

I had the same problem- bought a 1970s home last year and 4 outlets didnt work. Called Home360 and had them all fixed for a reasonable price- a couple hundred or so.

I have been using Home360 and have been satisfied so far. What kind of work are you looking to do?
Bought a house a year ago that had a pebble garden in the back yard directly bordered by grass (no divider). Grass has started to intrude on the rocks and after a 10 day long vacation, I came back to find the grass had started growing over the rocks.

I'm guessing some grass killing herbicide would do the trick in the short term, but what are some things I can do going forward to keep the grass from intruding again?
I recently had a 50A panel backfeed receptacle installed at my house for my portable generator. Since then, I have been advised to put expensive electronics (desktop computers, TVs, etc) on uninterruptable power supplies to protect them from the "dirty power" made from the generator (which is not an invertor generator).

Do y'all think these are absolutely needed? If so, Any recommended brands? I see APC pop up a lot.
