I’ve never entered a score myself. It’s all men’s league scores entered by the club pro.

I know you troll the ever loving frick out of this board, but please tell me this is not accurate.

Are you not entering all of your rounds into GHIN?

So I’m starting to understand all this after doing some actual research. Dustin plays at a +6.5 and they say Tiger at his best was playing at +8. And verbally a “plus 6 handicap” is wayyyyyy different(better) than a “6 handicap”.

Right now, all my scores in GHIN are from competitive rounds. I don’t usually record my scores when I’m going out and playing with buddies.

Is that bad?! I don’t usually play stoke play with friends. Usually match play or wolf.

GHIN scores should only be rounds where you are forced to putt everything out.

You are supposed to enter all rounds and 9-holes played...but I feel as if you know this, so skeptical when it comes to you.

I legit had no idea. If you can’t tell I’m more of the “casual player” although frequently in summer months. I know all the basic on course rules. I know nothing about handicaps and general scoring etiquette.

I think it makes more sense to use score where I’m actually “trying” to score. I play very informally with friends.

For someone that presents himself as God's gift to golf you sure do lack basic knowledge.

Never claimed to be the handicap guru. I’ve just got a damn pretty swing.

I’ll let you keep my score.

You post videos of yourself swinging a golf club to get approval from a random group of LSU fans...

Good swing or not, that’s pretty sad

I'm a MileHighDraw stan, even though he is apparently making fun of my putter fitting.

Ty Webb had a buttery swing and didn't keep score

They mark tournament rounds with a T.

These rounds stay in the system longer. They don’t roll off after 20. I think they last a year, but I’d have to look it up.

USGA does this to keep guys from putting in a slew of bad scores just ahead of member guest or club championship.

There is a calculation to predict the odds of whatever index shooting whatever score, keep over achieving or sandbagging and they fix it.

Tournament rounds are marked C now, and have no extra bearing on handicaps and fall off after 20 rounds,. They’ll just be utilized to verify if players seem to be play a lot better or worse in competition.

If you think I post video to get your “approval” you’re sorely mistaken. I post them for other reason which happen to be very fruitful on my end. Thanks for playing pubes

Interesting. Thanks for the info. Not all my scores are from tournaments. But they are all from competitive rounds where my playing partners were keeping score.

Yeah, that’s what half the board has been trying to explain to you. How can you be this active at golf and know nothing about how handicaps work?

A good (if oversimplified) analogy is point spreads. If you are a normal handicap (what many would call a "minus #"), you are the underdog and are getting strokes from the course. If you are a "plus #", you are favored against the course and have to give strokes back.

Yea that makes sense. I was thinking it was on more of a typical number line. You never hear anyone talking about the pga players handicaps.

I just saw Caddyshack for the first time ever 6 months ago.

I wish they’d change the formula to take all of my scores! They drop the 90’s. ????

I’m not the greatest.
Played as low as 7.5 index last year with range up to 10.5.

I broke 80 three times out of 150 scores.

Each time I put that score in GHIN acted like it was a change in skill level, not a few lucky puts and a decent driver for a day.

Rolling those off takes time. They count until you play 20 more times with a higher score.

When I shoot 94 or some bad round, the index just says- no change.
Play well a couple of times in a week, and the USGA updates the index like you are on the verge of going rely low all the time.

I laugh at my index sometimes because it is wrong in a reverse sandbagging direction.

Beating your index is an accomplishment whether you are +, 2, 10, or a 24.

If you get on a path of improvement, the index will quickly recognize it.

My problem is I’ll shoot a 78 on day and 91 the next time I play.
It is what it is.

No one who plays on any pro tour bothers with handicaps. It doesn't really have any meaning for those guys. In reality, it's just a way for amateurs of different levels to play a reasonably fair money game against each other.
