Simplest answer: it depends.

Slope and course rating determine calculation.

Since it is only your best 8 scores of your last 20, most people’s handicaps are about 3 shots below their average round.

Honest people only beat their index between 3 and 5 times out of 20.

People who come to a 3 day member guest and play better than their index every round are sandbaggers.

Reversion to the mean is real. If not, the index will most be down accordingly.

I got the email late last night and didn’t have time to research what it meant. So I came to this board to see if I could get and accurate answer(I couldn’t, big surprise). But after doing some research this morning this graph shows im in the top 1% of all golfers walking this planet.

This board specializes in putter fitting threads and “what should I wear to golf on a brisk day”. Losers.

The index has to be put with the slope and course rating for the course and tees you are playing.

I’m 10.5, but when I play our white tees I’m 13 because slope is 137 and course rating is 71.8.

Most courses are between 120 and 130 slope and many par 72 tracks only rate 70 or so.

They do. It’s mostly on hats and hoodies. But they say the zip code of the town and 1%.

Your idea sounds way better and I bet your graphics would destroys theirs.

So I’m starting to understand all this after doing some actual research. Dustin plays at a +6.5 and they say Tiger at his best was playing at +8. And verbally a “plus 6 handicap” is wayyyyyy different(better) than a “6 handicap”.

I’ve never entered a score myself. It’s all men’s league scores entered by the club pro.

The greens are very fast/hard and very undulated. The rest of the course is very straight forward.

My understanding is that your handicap is 80 percent of your average score so if you average 10 over you’d have an 8 handicap. So I don’t think you need to average par to have a zero. It’s supposed to reflect your potential.

I wish they’d change the formula to take all of my scores! They drop the 90’s. ????

So they follow you around and make sure you’re actually shooting the number you write down?
