Been having trouble with this quite a bit. I struggle with chunking the ball and hitting it off the toe at times. Any good thoughts or drills for keeping my upper body from taking over the swing during transition?

No expert of course, but I try keeping my head relatively still and my spine at the same angle until after impact. I also try not to let my hands beat my hips through impact.

You're not gonna make me think about that. I got enough thoughts in my head already.

Yes, drink 6 beers then go hit balls. If you can still think about that gobbledygook you just typed, quit golf because you’re a bigger head case than me.

Keep your back leg bent and weight on the inside of your back foot. Fire off of that when you’ve paused to the Gods.

You can literally write a book on the minute differences of what needs to happen at the ending of the backswing to start the club on an inward path toward the ball. There are sequential motions that need to happen in order to make that happen. These things can happen differently due to body mechanics between two different people; skinny people are different than fat/chubby people. It’s a matter of scope and how I swing and think is different than you

I don’t want to dodge your question, there are just many different possibilities of how to answer it.
How tall are you? Body makeup? Driver swing speed? Preferred shot shape? Ball position? Etc...etc...

Think about you throw a ball. Most of your body weight has already shifted to the front foot before you start the forward motion, if only by fractions of a second.

Maybe he DOES need to use all arms?

Or at least FEEL that way

I used my whole upper body to swing and NOT my arms. I only improved once I started keeping my back to the target. Honestly so much that it feels like my left shoulder is almost going backwards. But on film it looks good.

Nobody can answer this question for you.

What you think you are doing and what you are actually doing are never the same. And these feelings and sensations differ between every single person.

Get out of your head about the transition and think about 2 things, low and slow takeaway straight back, or even a bit outside the line, AND keeping your chin in the same place the whole swing until contact with a good full balanced through....

Look up 7-4-7 system by Club Pro Guy.

This is my miss and results in a shank for me.

I focus on keeping my trail elbow (righty) pinned to my body. It forces me to start the swing with my lower half if I can keep it pinned. You'll hit alot of draws/hooks but you'll get the sensation. If you feel the elbow/arm leave your body then you've turned back to far. This isn't conventional golf, but after shanking it for 2 years, it fixed it and I hit crispy iron shots all day now. My miss is just a sneaky draw from time to time now.
