You could get an extra few bristles if you would've opted for the polymer one. Red specifically.

I think that most people playing the newer lower spinning players distance or game improvement irons would benefit from a ball with more spin and higher trajectory to give longer carry, better stopping power and distance control. A lot of these players play the exact wrong ball, one of the low compression, low spin, low launch ones (avx, rxs, tour response, etc) when they should be playing a high compression, high launch, high spin (v1x, tp5x, maxfli tour x, zstar xv/diamond).

at my iron fitting, the pro told me exactly this. recommended the prov1x (in stealth irons). getting proper height and stopping on greens was his reasoning.

I like the Q Star Tours. I get the divides, which I know are pretty controversial because they are ugly, but I like them for putting alignment and they are easy to find in the rough.

I also liked them because it was easy to see my ball compared to who I was playing with. That was until I started playing with a new group at my club, and sure enough the first guy to tee it up had them too. I play him in match play on Saturday and will be using a white one.

So how do you pick the right ball ?

The only ball fitting I ever did was with Bridgestone and it recommended a ball that I absolutely hated. Played one dozen and never played one again.

I've actually been trying to find a new ball that I like as good or more than I do the ProV1x for maybe 4 months now. The two that I seem to like just as good are the Taylor Made TP5 and surprisingly the Maxfli Tour S.

The Maxfli doesn't have the feel around the green/spin and isn't quite a durable, but man it has been money off the tee and with my irons. The TP5 feels pretty similar to the ProV1x, not quite as soft but very durable. Just seems to have a little more spin off the tee.

Haven't tried the Mizuno Tour balls but I'd like to give them a shot.

Bopper,

Chad does ball fittings at Marti Golf Center.

Never been there, will check it out.

Just looked at their website and saw Chuck Berson teaches there.

The stories that I could tell about that guy....

Start your ball fitting around the green and go back from there.

I'm surprised that he is still alive.

Drinking, drugs, shooting a pistol through the roof, throwing a guy's clubs in the lake, fights, etc...

And that's a average week for him. Never knew what kind of mood he would be in.

He is a likeable guy until the moment he goes bat shite crazy .

There were some strippers out the only day at his 9 hole course, it got way out of hand..

I pick my ball based on how long it takes me to lose it. So far the Callaway Chrome Soft is the front runner but followed closely by AVX. I've gotten 2-3 rounds out of a single Chrome Soft before.

If it's doing what I want it to do, then it's a good fit for me.

I swapped from the prov1x to the prov1 after about 10 years.

Prefer the flight and lack of side spin on the prov1.
Prov1x has better sound and more backspin tho

I used the Chrome Soft X in the Spring it was just ok.

I tried a couple of sleeves with the 2022 ZStar which was good off the irons but didn't really pop off the driver.

I used the AVX for most of the Summer. Can't say anything bad or great about it, it was serviceable off the irons and woods.

Played 9 holes with the PXG ball so far so good. It's a little clicky off the putter.

But I want to give the Maxfli Tour S a shot soon.

I either buy or find them all and play them. For my game, the differences between the premium balls is so small as to be insignificant. OTOH, if I could not play a Urethane ball, I would probably quit.

I think the best thing amateurs can do is just play the same, new ball every time. Used balls could have been in a lake and repainted, balls you found are scuffed and have various characteristics. Better to use a 20/dozen ball all the time if you care about scoring.

I am guilty of this and it's probably hurting my score. I jump between brands all the time and will use a scuffed ball till I lose it.

I need to order in bulk and play one new ball consistently.
