Carts may message you if you’re behind pace of play. I know the RTJ courses do. Marshals I know have asked people to pick up the pace or skip a hole to speed things along. However they can only ask, they can’t order people off the course just for being slow pretty much any public course.

I’d suggest you find things to do if it’s slow. I do. If I don’t have someone right behind me I’ll hit some extra putts. God knows we can all use that.

If I do I’ll work on hitting some chips on the next tee at the markers. Again, god knows we all need help there.

What I don’t do anymore is stress about it, and I seriously doubt you’ll find many people who play faster than I do.

Golf courses would go out of business in a hurry if they started charging people different rates for the same thing.

This is peak golf.

Went to a goat ranch last week.

Packed.

Country Club- packed.

When is the big quit?

I don’t see it coming.
Our club went from 19000 rounds in 2019 to 32000 rounds in 2023.

I am amazed at the stickiness of rounds played. I see all ages, not just retirees. Tons of home schoolers playing daily. Lots of 30-50 year old guys finding time during the week to play.

I guess Covid sort of got people in the habit of golfing.

Something is up with this town and over crowded courses.
I was at Webb the other day and saw a 6 group party. I don’t get it.

If you passed them on 5 and they were playing so slow, how were they still on your tail by hole 14?

You may have missed this part:

quote:

We skip them on 5 and they finally cross us on 13/14 because that’s the only part where two holes play side by side

I don't know the course layout but I read that to mean that they weren't on the hole directly behind them, but on a hole that parallels the hole OP was on.

I certainly could be wrong here.

There's a really weird dynamic on golf courses about playing through. I don't know if it's a macho thing or what, but it's totally irrational. There's nothing I hate more on a golf course than having someone playing up my arse. If I'm playing slow and there's an opening in front of me, I will ask the group behind to play through. I don't get groups, and it's almost always men, who act like it's emasculating to let another group play through. If someone is waiting on you, and the hole in front of you is open, let them play through, it's so friggin weird.

13 and 14 are right next to each other. They run parallel. The way he explained it, they were on 14 tee and the group behind was on the approach to 13 green. This means the “slow” group was able to keep up for 9 holes. Odd.

Is that really the whole story?

I used To play with some neighbors that were great guys but tend to play slow. It was irritating but I learned to appreciate the friendship and not worry about it. I was a faster player but i decided to just relax.
We’d let faster groups play through no problem. One time we had a group skip 2 groups from behind us but it didn’t bother us to have a group skip a few groups.
I see nothing wrong but I don’t get upset at people skipping around as long as I’m not waiting on them
Sorry for the long message

Not sure why the skepticism on the story. Marshal told us to skip them on hole 2 and we waited till 5.

Crossed paths where altercation happened due to catching another slow group on 10. Even then, there was a full hole between us

You didn’t address the key point. Why were they right behind you 9 holes after you passed them?

He said there was a hole open, which turned out not to be what he thought when he skipped them.

Slow play it’s been my experience usually isn’t the group in front of you, and an “open hole” is frequently an illusion due to the nature of the course.

On the judge #12 is a frequent jam up. #11 is a fairly easy hole that tends to play quickly, then #12 has a lot of tee shots go in the drink and balls played from the drop area to a difficult green. I’ve seen 3 groups pile up on 12 and nobody in sight on 13, which also plays pretty quickly. Then jams back up again 15/16.

You just assumed that because you want that to be true so you can say how skipping a group doesn’t work

had a group of olds riding on cart path only day at memorial park. You'll walk more riding than walking that course on cart path only cause of the layout. I have tracked steps

I was walking and paired with a random guy. They were a 4 some. We caught them at the tee box every hole. Slow as hell, regularly shot their distance then walked back to the cart for a new club. I waited every shot.

They were getting drinks with the cart girl so we decided to skip the hole.

we met up at the cart girl said "hey we are skipping a head, have a good one"

one of the olds "the frick you are kid, we don't want to play behind walkers"

it is such a strange thing to get upset about. I would never dream of letting a twosome wait behind my 4-some

Always question things. Best way to make sure you’re thinking instead of reacting.

I even get my wife to agree I’m right occasionally. Got it on camera once.

I’m doubting you’ve ever admitted to being wrong about anything
