In reality, they aren’t playing golf, they’re just getting drunk outside. To be fair, I love getting drunk outside. But I’m not sure why you would pay a green fee to do it.

for every young drunk I've been behind, there are 100 times I've behind a group of olds farting around and moving much slower that refuse to let people play thru

Unfortunately, many courses are built in neighborhoods with streets to cross between holes and long walks between the green and the next tee.

I still walk, but I miss the old school park style setups.

Only complete morons think this. Every person has exactly the same standing.

Marshals and the schedulers by and large do a good job of getting groups off on schedule and putting individuals together to try and fill out foursomes.

There’s an etiquette to this game that has been lost a long time ago. Shitty players refusing to pickup. Good players pretending they’re in the masters. If you have someone behind you waiting, let them through, pickup your putt for fukin triple bogey, and everyone play ready golf.

After being a member at a club that doesn't allow tee times and has more members that don't golf than do, I don't think I could ever go back to a busy club.

A little over a year a year at my current club and I don't think I've ever had to be let through or needed to let anyone else play through. Just no pressure.

Edit: I actually did play through as a single passing up a foursome a few weeks ago.

There is a clear problem today and it is a foursome that is playing slow and not letting anyone through.
I have cures for that, this is of course assuming there’s a hole open in front of them. Skip ahead of them, make sure they are going to have to wait for you to clear before they can tee off.

Option 2, my personal favorite is rip one that lands about 30-40 yards ahead of them while they’re waiting 300 yards out on a par 5 they just hit their drive about 220 on because they’re going to go for it in 2.

”you guys just want to play together?” Question to ask on a par 3 tee, since you’re probably both going to be on the same one at some point. You don’t need a Marshall to ask for you.

I play as a single at least 2 days a week at one of the busiest complexes in the state.

The system pairs up individuals with others to round out a foresome. The marshals all know me though, so if I roll up early to my 7:10 and the 7:00 is still waiting on someone, they will send me out solo. I’ll be done in 2-2 1/2 hours.

Most of the time I will get paired with 2 or 3 people I’ve never met, which is fine. I can speed their play up by telling them where to go and where not to miss it.

My club in Sugar Land is at full golf capacity and it is hard as hell to even get a tee time before 2pm or so despite being a full member. The tee sheet opens at 7am on Mon/Tues for Sat/Sun and the morning slots are booked instantaneously with often times computer glitches that leave me without a tee time at all. Several of my buddies who are casual golfers at the club face the same issue. There are far too many members already and now they are renovating the course in rotating 9s over next two years.

In the rare event you get a time slot, it is slow as hell and sometimes a 5 hour round.

Golf is having a resurgence but it’s frustrating as hell in some ways to be quite honest.

I've seen too many groups where both carts drive to the first ball, the guy plays it, and then both carts drive to the next ball, and they play like that all round. Each cart needs to drop off their first guy at their ball, then the 2nd guy drives to his, the first guy hits and should start walking towards the cart and then the cart drives to pick him up after the 2nd guy hits. Its really not that hard. Its cart golfers knew how to manage their pace of play more efficiently we wouldn't have this problem.

Got stuck behind not one by two groups like this at Oak Harbor last week. They would all congregate for every single shot. First group the marshall got them and we played through. Second group we caught up to on 16 and they were completely clueless

What a dream to do this where you play.

I rolled up at 6:55 to a 7:00 at Ross Bridge last summer. Marshall was like ah hell, take off if you want to. It was a great day.

Courses would do well to have a Marshall at the turn. If the pace of play dictates that every group should turn in 2 hours, then the Marshall can tell a group that took too long that their round has ended at the turn.

Give fair notice up front and give them the goal to meet. If they fail they have no one to blame but their own group.

On the back side, send a Marshall with authority to end rounds on the spot if they fall behind.

Yes, there will be some hurt feelings from time to time, but word spreads and anyone wanting to play will know that the course is serious about pace of play.

Here’s an idea,,,everyone plays the forward tees unless you have an established handicap good enough to allow you to back up if you wish.

The common speeding up play ideas leaves a critical one out of the common solutions.

Ingrain that you should pick your ball up after your double bogey stroke.

I know you would get some folks who would ignore it but that would speed up things so much. When you have bad golfers taking 8 strokes or more per par 4 it really messes everything up.

This is not a relevant argument to the pace of play discussion.

It’s just a disclaimer that gives the course a right to pair you with someone and to tell you it’s not our fault if you run up on a bunch of dick heads or incompetents that won’t let you through.

Because a foursome that won’t let a twosome through is usually a bunch of dick heads or incompetents.
