Long time listener, first time caller.

What golf balls do y'all prefer? I started playing seriously in May of this year and I've gotten my scoring down to 85-86 and I'm interested in finding out how much a decent golf ball will help my play.

I've typically bought balls from resellers like lostgolfballs(dot)com to keep costs down while I improve but open to the board's input. Obviously ProV1 is the big dog but not sure I want to go that route just yet.

eta: If it matters at all, my swing speed at a recent Titleist fitting was 107. I've read that should play a part in choosing a ball but I don't personally know how much weight to put into that

I played ProV1s & AVX for a while, recently switched to Bridgestone Tour BXS. I tried out the Tour BX last weekend for the first time, and shot my personal best.

So I'm gonna stick with these for a while

With that swing speed, you could play a 3 piece ball like ProV1.

However, a good 2 piece ball with a great cover like Titleist tour soft May give you less side spin. Good 2 piece balls a cheaper and include Calloway Supersoft, Wilson duo soft., Bridgestone e12, etc

I prefer taylormade tp5 balls... Don't balloon in the wind, great distance, good touch around the greens

No matter the ball you choose, I buy all my balls from lostgolfballs.com. You can order near mint of whatever ball you choose for more than 50% off.

I play Taylormade TP5 Get them for $12.99 dozen and buy 10 dozen at time and get free shipping.

If you’re looking to save a few bucks but get similar characteristics as the premium balls, Taylormade Project A balls are sweet. Super high wedge spin, and very similar long game characteristics as TP5.
Rick Shiels did a video and said it might as well be part of the TP5/TP5x line.

Bridgestone Tour B XS is also a sweet ball and noticeably long, lostgolfballs.com hasn’t had them in stock for a little while though

I second whoever suggested buying the slightly used Pro-Vs and V1X's. You can find good quality lots of them on eBay for around a buck a ball.

Watch YouTube videos by TXG Golf. Best channel for equipment testing.

For those of us that aren’t tour pros, Maxfli Tour and Tour X should be a consideration.

TXG tested them against Pro V’s and the results were negligible. Save $20 a dozen and play a great ball.

^^^ This. Maxfli also received high marks in the MyGolfSpy ball test.

So much buzz on Srixon. I need to try a sleeve.
If I play TP5s, what would be the equal?
