the best thing thats happened to grow the game is Covid. Its about the only thing you can do and golf (down here at least) is more popular than it has been in years (based on what I'm told by the folks who run the muni courses).

The PGA is trying to grow the game at a time when its not necessary. The game is seeing a resurgence and growth. I'd market it and let the people who really want to participate do so. But I don't think thats gonna be enhanced by playing majors at munis.

The starter at Gus in Houston told me that every day since covid started they’ve been completely booked

I think the PGA needs to rework the schedule for 2021 and give a look to a lot of these courses that are too far from a city center or can't accommodate fans.

I mean, I know these tournaments are tied into cities because of sponsors, but why does Zurich need to be at TPC LA in 2021. How many more eyes would it get at Bandon or Pine Valley? You can't do corporate hospitality anyway, it's all about tv and getting guys to play in your tournament at this point. I'm sure there are 1,000 logistical and contractual issues I'm not considering, but this is my dream and I'll dream.

'd much rather the PGA be the architecture snob tournament. Send them to places with small crowds and small infrastructure, but great architecture. Pine Valley, Seminole, Bandon, Streamsong, etc.

I’m with ya. I’m on board with The Fried Egg crowd of architecture, but it is a pipe dream to ever see a US Open or any Championship at Seminole or Pine Valley.

Streamsong would be interesting place to have a Championship Tournament.

Did you watch any of the commercials the PGA had during the tournament? I’m not the demographic being targeted for access. That is where they are trying to grow the game.

While you are on the subject, I think the PGA tour should demand each touring pro play each tournament in a certain time frame. Maybe once in five years to support all the tour stops and to help create interest.

Pine Valley

USGA won’t go unless they allow women members. I would love to see it though.

I really like when the PGA championship is at non US Open style courses. With course setup they can make it tough enough for a PGA championship.

Streamsong could work. Bandon would be great but it’s far off the beaten path. They hosting the US am so maybe in the future.

No, if you want it to have a special identity, bring it back to match play

City Park South - here we come!

Winning score would be -40 under.

Not sure how hard they could make that place with the lack of trees. #13 is really the only difficult hole on the entire property.

Probably has the infrastructure for it in terms of open space for galleries/hospitality, room for parking etc though.

Pine Valley can host but it has no room for spectators or sponsor tents. I would like to see the pros play there but the logistics are almost impossible.

Cog Hill is a great option if it’s setup properly.

Match play at ACC is awesome.

That is also a good reason to never do munis only. You're going to miss out on some great venues. Southern Hills, Olympic Club, Aronimink and Quail Hollow are all better places than TPC Harding Park. Hell, the US Open at LACC is going to be nuts. Let's not limit the potential courses and possibly lose out on some great venues.

I think there is so.etjing along those lines where they have to have a new tournament every few years. I can't remember the specifics, but it's something like that.

I think it’s better to propose public courses not just Munis

Bandon dunes
Sand valley
Kiawah
Pinehurst
Then you have all the muni courses to add on top of that.

Memorial park here we go

I played Memorial Park a couple weeks ago for the first time since the redesign. $29 with a cart at twilight for a PGA tour stop is a ridiculous deal.

Who knows how they will set it up for the Houston Open, but if they play it as a par 70 (play 1 & 14 as par 4’s), grow out the rough, and firm/speed up those Doak greens, I think it could hold up as a PGA Champ site.
