Not impressed. Place was crowded as hell, felt like I was playing a Saturday round at Santa Maria. Also, greens are decent but fairways are in average shape. Lay out seriously reminders me of Webb. If I'm going to NOLA to play TPC or Lakewood are hands down the better option (haven't played English Turn yet)

I’ve never had a problem with the crowd at bayou oaks. This board gives it a lot of mixed reviews, but I love the course. They could toughen it up if they wanted, but I think they genuinely try to make it a place where different skill levels can play.

They definitely could have put more money into shaping fairways (contours, etc), but I enjoy the course. It’s been in great shape all three times I’ve played it. It’s fun and it’s in a really pretty setting.

While I agree, living in Nola, not having to drive to the wank to play is nice. I have had more problems with slow play at TPC than I ever had at Bayou Oaks.

When it first opened it was in great shape, but unfortunately they haven't been doing a great job maintaining it, which sucks cause its a pretty good track.

Played Saturday in a little over 4 hours. It was crowded bc English Turn was closed.

It's in as good a shape as any course around right now. This winter has been brutal with all the rain and extreme temp fluctuations.

Pluses are convenience (for NOLA residents), good conditioning, decent par 3's and good variety in the 4's.

Minuses are no real practice facility, and the greens and surrounds are boring as frick. On a flat piece of land you have to make the greens interesting, Rees Jones showed zero imagination.

Whoops, corrected. Got my Joneses mixed up...although they both suck so my point stands

I was pretty underwhelmed at this choice of architect. Coore/Crenshaw, Gill Hanse, Doak or DMK all would have been substantially better.

I played Sunday, I like the course but that’s because I’m a beginner and it’s not too difficult. Shot a 92 which I am proud of. Haha

Bayou Oaks is worth of critique...there are some bland holes out there, but this is far from accurate.

I like it. Played it a bunch and only critique is it being too wide open off the tee (not an earth shattering observation). IMO The routing was mostly pre-determined bc of the live oaks.

From the back tees you'll hit every club in the bag. Also have played a few Am tournaments there and they have the ability to turn the screws on it by making the greens really slick. Makes it a whole different ballgame. Have played it with lots of the areas top ams and have yet to see it get lit up. Still a young course and can improve with some tweaks here and there. Overall, I'm happy with it. Nice to have a well conditioned golf course in the middle of the city.

ETA: Tough time of year to judge the conditioning of any course. Especially with all of the rain we've been getting.

every time I play bayou oaks it just makes me sad that all that money was given to Rees Jones. We are in a golf desert here in New Orleans with no classically designed golf courses available to the public. The course is straight up boring and does not have one memorable hole. Look at this image and see what he does to unique and interesting architecture.

maybe others like coore-crenshaw, doak, hanse, etc turned it down because of the land they had to work with but given 24 million they have the capability to make a course that people would travel from across the country to play, and rees jones has never done that in his career.

Doak is doing the renovation of Memorial in Houston for half of that budget and what I'm assuming isn't much better, if at all, piece of land. If I had to guess I'd chalk this up to typical New Orleans mismanagement. They probably wanted something vanilla

With its length from the back tees and if you add in wind and slick greens, I think this statement definitely holds up.

And other than the wide open fairway looks as you state, it's not as bad as people in this thread are making it out to be. Good public track IMO.

I like it, but I think they are asking too much for rounds out there. I’d pay $50 but nothing over that. I did the 250 for 5 rounds. I think bartholemew is a good course for the price condition wise, but I can’t read those greens for shite.

If I didn't know any better there were a few times I was sitting on a fairway and just by looking around it felt like Webb. By that I mean, holes right next to eachother side by side going back and forth each hole. Similar tree lined fairways. Obviously, Bayou Oaks is better maintained...I was meaning strictly layout.
