Society as a whole has lost respect for others. It is not limited to golf.

We play ready golf a good bit. No use waiting on people. Get the balls in the hole and get to the next tee box.

I know it's a toothpaste out of the tube situation in America, but the game of golf would be in a better place if all able bodied players walked. I think it would get rid of a lot of disagreements between groups.

This is so true.

The game is played outside. Walking allows an interval between shots so you aren’t just racing and waiting. It also just allows you to converse with a friend, soak in the environment, clear your head.

Paradoxically, some walkers play as quickly or quicker than riders because they go straight to their golf ball. This is especially true when it is “cart path only” because of rain.

I started playing golf in 1987, and both of these were a problem back then. No matter what year it was or ever will be, some people are just arse holes.

I agree with this but I don't think even the courses would like this. If everyone walked they wouldn't be able to cram as many people as they can in and they would make less money.

This is the reason it takes 5 hrs to play a round at Carter plantation

IME walking is just as fast, if not faster than a cart, provided the course is relatively flat.

I definitely enjoy a walking round, but there are limitations there. If there are a ton of elevation changes and/or its 95+ degrees out I am fine with saving my energy for my swing and my thought process.

If the course has gas powered golf carts because the battery operated ones aren't powerful enough to tackle the elevation changes, then I'm probably not interested in walking.

I don’t disagree, but don’t have the sample size to know.

I intend to walk a little during the slow months of winter.

I did play the Valley course at Oxmoor Valley with a walker. Relatively flat in the Valley, but definitely some elevation changes in places. It was me in one cart, two in another, and this little Asian guy walking. He said he walks every Sunday morning if he can. I don’t remember having to wait on him hardly any. Maybe a couple times when the tee box was a little hike, but very rarely tee to green… I will say he was accurate and consistent, so that helped a lot.

People walking are as fast or faster than 2 guys sharing a cart.

I just can’t manage it this time of year in the Louisiana heat. Try to do it in the spring/fall/winter when I can. Loved the experience of walking with a caddy at Bandon.

A vast majority of the kids have no fricking clue. Talking about walking in lines, not spotting the ball, stand beside their marker even if it is a foot behind the hole when someone’s putting. It’s awful to watch and takes all,the elegance and respect away from the game.

So this might sound dumb, but I wonder if some of this has to do with kids watching things like Good Good. I think they do all that stuff because they have to be cognizant of their pace of play, but they walk thru lines, talk while other people are hitting, walk thru their eye line, etc. all the time.

If that’s the only golf you’re watching, you’re probably going to imitate it.

Fwiw, I have no issues with those guys. I just know that the couple times I’ve played with kids wearing their attire, they did not have the best etiquette in the world.

Absolutely, and pace of play arguments would near disappear. When my home course is closed to carts due to rain and it is walkers only, there are no issues with pace of play. Walkers move around the course at pretty much the same pace. Cart golf is a lot of hurry up and wait. Also, cart golf is a different game than walking golf with the physical demands leading to fatigue on the back 9, especially if you are carrying the bag. I push cart now and love it, won't go back to carrying unless it's necessary.

Of course, I walk 99% of the rounds I play, playing 3-4 times a week, so I am biased.

I'm new to the game.

What is ettiqute for cart partners that hit their shots nowhere near each other? Drop partner off at furthest ball, go back hit my ball, and then drive forward to pick him up? or we both wait for my shot then drive to their ball?

Drop furtherest player from green off with proper club, IF not in the line, proceed to second ball- other man can walk a little after he swings.

This is another reason to walk IF you are able. Ready golf is easier when you can proceed to your golf ball- realizing you don’t want to get in their line going forward.

Cart path only is a real flail in that there is a lot of walking back and forth often with the wrong club.

LSUPride87 could've given you a booster to prevent the rake variant, baw! Would've kept you "safe" for a whopping 3 days.

I agree. I actually love it when courses go to cart path only. I enjoy walking, and this removes any stigma that I may be slowing groups down by walking. If you have a push cart, I don't think an argument can be made that riding in a cart during CPO is more enjoyable. When you walk, you always have every club available, always have your range finder, etc. In the end, you may take a few more steps, but I think the round is more enjoyable when you don't have to carry 4 clubs to a shot because you have no idea what lie you have.

The guy that takes 5 practice swings, then backs off for another look before hitting the shot.

We had a guy like that in our big group. We finally told him to find another group. He was driving everyone crazy.

I had one land next to me yesterday, in the fairway on a par 4, I was waiting on the group to clear the green. The other cart in my group is sitting in plain sight of the fairway and it flies 40 yards over their heads.

3 holes later we’re standing by the tee and 2 thump down next to me. At that point I said something when they drive up “yell next time”. No apology, nothing.

Told him next time it happened I’d get him tossed off the course.
