The biggest difference is driver. I feel so free with the driver with the correct shaft. I've almost completely taken the duck hook out of play with the new shaft. That was my really bad swing miss before, but with a really tip stiff shaft I feel like I can't even make that swing.

Can you still hit a draw or big draw when you want to? I pretty much eliminated the left side with my new shaft but can’t draw it like before because it’s stiff AF!

I can hit a high draw with my path but I can't get the face turned down to hit a low hook. For eliminating an awful shot, I'll take that.

What kind of irons did you end up with?

Thanks. Good to know. Maybe I'll get fitted.

If you are single digit and played with Tagor Mad as recently as last year then you are a prime candidate for club fitting. The technology is amazing now. It won’t make you a scratch golfer alone, but it will give you confidence knowing you have equipment capable of allowing you to be scratch.

So at what handicap is a club fitting justified? I'm high single digits and I buy used clubs off the rack. I played with knock-offs from 1997 (Tagor Made Burner ) until this past year. I've never paid attention to grips or shafts, other than playing stiff shafts. My drivers are graphite shafts and my irons are metal. I don't know what they are. A fitting seems like overkill unless you are a scratch golfer from the tips. That ain't me right now.

I tell people to get fitted if you want to get better and will be playing regularly.

People think about getting fitted as all about the "custom" aspect of it, but a lot of it is just being able to hit a bunch of different club heads and shaft combinations(even just different weights stock shafts) with a trackman to see distances, launch angles, spin, etc. all with a trained eye. The heads are all a little different and so is everyone's swing so you can get some very different results with different brands and head types. It's actually a fun and interesting process if you are into golf and for the most part unless you are getting some crazy custom driver shaft, its more or less the same price as retail besides the fitting fee.

I'm still a Buddha fan despite the unfortunate circumstance earlier. Granted, I do have a bag full of Mizuno clubs (which I preferred and also tested the best) but I swung most every brand possible during my fitting and he definitely did not pressure my decision.

Good luck. I'm extremely glad I got fitted.

Just got done with my first fitting experience at Dallas Golf. Those guys are great if you're in the DFW area I'd recommend it. They are going to be a way better quality fitting than what I've seen at PGA Superstore.

Here's my data for my 7 iron. Hitting into a $20K shot tracker is worth the money. He has me on the Nippon Modus 105x shafts and either the Mizuno 921 HMB, Callaway Apex, or the Taylormade P770s for heads. I was getting fatigued so I'll be going back next week to hit those three fresh for better readings. I hit about 12 different club heads and then made a second pass at what I hit the best. He was also really dialed in on my swing within a few minutes. I was hitting off the toe and my lie angle was too low. Hilariously enough when he adjusted the irons I was swinging to my swing I started hitting a high fade as opposed to a draw with my current set. I'm a numbers guy and like the physics of golf when it is explained to me. Just thought I'd share

I'm convinced. How do I find a fitting place that offers the type of experience (and technology) you mention in your post?

I purchased all my stuff off of GlobalGolf and Callaway's used site. My woods are all stiff graphite shafts - Driver is a Recoil ES, 3 wood is an Even Flow Project X, and the 5 wood is Tensei AV Series. All different. The iron shafts are all stiff MAX or MAX AVS. Are these shite? I don't mind switching them out. I like the clubs though and I strike them well (Epic woods and Rogue Irons). I'm close to throwing my Jaws wedges in the trash though. I can't figure out how to hit them consistiently.

I forgot; grips on woods are Golf Pride, Lamkin, and Tour Velvet. The irons grips are just the off-the-rack Callaway grips.

I would have vouched for Bebu a few months ago, but he lost his reputation when he didn't put the customer first and got blasted on here. I've been to him a few times and I still trust him with finding what's right for my game.

I guess you can’t make everyone happy these days, I’ve had nothing but positive experiences when I’ve went. He actually didn’t care what brand I wanted to play he was more concerned about the right shafts, lies, lengths, and swing weight of whatever heads I wanted to game, never pushed a brand of club on me...

Club Champion SLC

This looks like they provide the same experience as Golf Dallas. 1.5 hours and they'll have you hit into the TrackMan Pro

Just scheduled my first fitting with Nick. Anything I should know about the fitting process. Do I just show up with clubs and go?

Yes. I’d get there a little early. I was just there for a putter fitting, so I only brought my putter.
I guess think about things you are concerned with etc.
they’ll take it from there.

putter fitting

If there were something that was just personal preference and feel I would think it would be a putter. Am I wrong? I actually went back to a mallet that I purchased in 1997 over a new Odessey I just purchased. As scientifically as I could I made the decision. Maybe I'll try a new mallet instead of the Klingon putters that are so popular.

You learn some really cool stuff on the SAM fitting machine, your putting stroke path, how efficient you are, loft at contact, etc.

I didn't put a lot of effort into selecting the putter i had been using. So it was really useful.
