I had money on Bryson and found myself routing for Rory.
Wow. Where does that go in all time chokes?

Doesn't compare to Greg Norman choke jobs.

Agreed. And Rory did it while his opponent was scrambling for his life. Rory just sh*t the bed.

I think it’s right up there if not the worst I have seen

Have other guys blew bigger leads? Of course.

But missing a 2’5” and 3’9” putt on holes 16 and 18 is all time bad

And it’s not like it was because his putter was cold. His putter was red hot. So it shows he choked completely.

If a bad putter who has been putting awful all day does that it’s still awful but you can say “he just can’t putt”. Rory was absolutely feeling the putter

But the golf board will say he’s not a mental midget because he’s a great player. Dude is a mental weakling and has been for several years

Nonsense. I don’t think a player can win 4 majors and 3 FedEx Cups by being mentally weak. I don’t care how physically talented he is.

Phil only choked 1 US Open to lose. Rory choked twice in the last 5 holes

On a scale of 1 to Jean Van De Velde, about a 5.

That 4 footer on 16 was a difficult putt, downhill, hard breaking to the right. You can’t exactly ram that one in. Really easy to take a spin out and turn it into a 6.

Short putts are tough sometimes.

It’s paradoxical that a short putt needs to carry more pace as it goes in the hole than a long putt.

Drift the long ones, ram the short ones.

I “choke” often. Usually IF I sort of try to wish it in instead of rolling it right into the back of the cup.

It was more than the putts. The tee shot on the par 3 long was inexcusable. You cannot miss long there. The tee shot on 18 after he'd been striping it all tournament. He lost a two shot lead with 4 to play due to poor shot making and atrocious putting.

Long was really dumb. Saw lots of guys be short of the green or just on, much easier to make par. Thats the shot that cost him the tournament, sometimes it only takes one.

Both Rory and Bryson missed left on 18, Bryson should have made bogey or worse from where he ended up, but Bryson’s approach to the game is simply different than everyone else, it’s all about the math.

Rory did something he should have known better than to do, but every single one of us who has played any tournament golf has done. He quit playing with his head and started trying to shoot a score. Even for pros that rarely ends well.

I'm going to give Rory a break .

The last two years he has had to carry way too much tour and personal stuff on his back.

In both cases he has had to live this out in the public eye.

He may have lost the tournament due to a loss of focus in a moment, but the fact that he has continued to play world class golf in spite of everything is a testimony to his fortitude.

I don’t consider playing from behind then “blowing” a one stroke lead “choking”. Especially on that course. Bryson has been playing great golf since he’s been healthy, and even after he left the window cracked it still felt like the pressure was on the rest of the field, including Rory. Would’ve liked to see a little more gamesmanship out of him, at least talk to the media. When you’re the face of the tour I don’t think it’s a great look.

He definitely gets in his own head. I agree he's not a mental midget. Honestly there are very few guys on tour that are that, you have to be pretty mentally tough just to make it on tour much less win multiple majors.

This was the worst choke I've personally ever scene in a major since Jean van de Velde at The Open. That is the worst ever, even though he still made the playoff.

I think there are guys out there with a killers mentality and he just isn't one of them and it's cost him at least two majors. Doesn't mean he's a mental midget it has just held him back and he gets by on raw talent more than anything on the mental side.

History is littered with missed 3 footers.

Doug Sanders at St Andrew’s.

Me at member-member fourth flight.

Sometimes we fail in ELITE competitions.
