I thought that too. IF you give MyGolfSpy any credence, their data says just the opposite. Irony.

I would LOVE to see a test where you take the logos off the major golf ball brands, high-end versions (ProV1) and mid-range versions (Tour Response). Just test totally white balls. Colored dot to distinguish which is which. I think we would ALL be surprised by the results.I truly believe that it is 90% mental on golf ball choice. I just can’t hit Srixon or Callaway. Won’t play them. I know they make good balls, but I look down and see their logos and BLAH, can’t hit them.

I believe soft balls FEELS like they spin more but dont. I prefer the feel of a softer ball, but firmer spinnier balls are better for my game. Recently started using Maxfli Tour X and really like them.

Same for Pro V1’s for me. Can’t play a hole without losing one and can keep my Kirkland the whole round sometimes.

Usually play callaway super softs. Found a pro v today and hit it noticeably better.

I’m a short hitter. I recently switched from TP5’s to Calloway supersofts cause I get more run out without sacrificing feel on and around greens. Plus they’re about $20 cheaper.

Here's Mygolfspy's latest ball test

I'm by no means a scratch golfer, but I really just can't believe this. A quality golf ball going 40 yards to the left on a good hit? I can feel a softer ball vs a harder ball. I can tell that a certain ball will get more spin or gets a generally higher ball flight vs another. I can tell that a certain ball seems to get alittle more back spin around the greens. But any time I have a ball go 40 yards left or right I can immediately feel that I had my face way too open or way too closed or that I was crazy over the top. I've never thought I hit the ball perfectly flush and had anything beyond a 5-10 yard draw/fade that matched my feels.

TLDR: Sometimes I think these people will greatly overexaggerate things to convince golfers they constantly need the latest and greatest.

I feel like the distinct answer to this thread is

- Can you tell the difference in golf balls? Yes

- Do better golf balls actually make a difference in your score? Not unless you are a low single digit handicap or better

Odd how that works.. played the island recently grabbed a fresh sleeve of pro Vs lost 2 of them fairly quickly but I found a yellow Mizuno w/ “Jeff” written on the side of it ended up using it for the rest of the round then 9 holes yesterday and another 9 today. Jeff refuses to give up on my shitty golf game.

So thanks Jeff!

Update: Played the back 9 of The Island this afternoon and Jeff felt that his mission was complete after I birdied 11 and it was time to move on.

Fare the well Jeff

Any problem with gnats out there? I’ve only been there once and didn’t have any issues, but a friend of mine refuses to go back because they were so bad.

But a person can also be playing a completely wrong ball for their particular game.

It absolutely can make a difference in their score if they grab the cheaper option that isn't suited for their swing speed. Not all cheap to mid tier balls are made the same.

Can you play any ball and make it work? Yes. Can you play a ball that fits your game and make it work better? Absolutely yes.

Oh absolutely. Haven’t been able to find a spray that fends them off worth a shite.

Mosquitoes are horrendous around a few holes as well.

I tried a TP5 today.

This ball sort of jumps off the putter for me. More of a click.

I guess I like a softer feel.

I did not score very well today, but when I took a good swing, it was fine.

For me, I think I just like a softer golf ball..

For Gnats, either use Olive Oil aerosol spray (found in the hair beauty section) or Victorias Secret amber romance. Both work great.

Interesting. I’ll try that

My daughter had a tournament at the island recently and one of the moms brought some concoction that she made with essentially oils and i couldn’t tell if i smelled like a stripper or a thanksgiving turkey

I definitely have some explaining to do when I use the amber romance. But both are a Gnat force field and work for about two hours. Reapply on the back nine and good to go. I keep a can of the olive oil spray in my golf bag.

Played Titleist tour speed today.

Good ball for me.

No penalty strokes.

Got a sandy.

It’s enough ball for me.

You found my ball. Glad you liked it… My drives were pretty straight last week. I liked the mizuno 566s. Most of my drives were straight all day. First time trying the mizunos want to by another box again after I use them all.

Never really paid much attention to specifics on different balls. Maybe I should.
