There was overwhelming support to keep City Park Golf Course INTACT at last night's BREC Public Meeting to get feedback on their $600,000 master plan that wants to chop up City Park Golf Course. Check out this link:
Here's what the voters at the meeting showed Hope BREC listens

Any redevelopment will be grifted to commercial developers.

So what’s the result of the public’s opinions? Did BREC acquiesce or do they still plan to butcher a legitimately historic course?

I have the feeling that the Sasaki was handed the framework of the plan by a few “interested parties”.

I’d like to see brec improve the course and some things around the park without putting ridiculous stuff in there just to justify the 600k that was spent.

Who knows what will happen next. The only thing I’m fairly certain of is that some person/group in this city will keep coming after that little golf course until they manage to get rid of it.

Jenni Peters with Varsity Sports? It’s okay. You can say it. Why someone that owns a tennis shoe store is hell bent on modifying a public golf course is beyond me.

With LSUGC closing, I think it will always remain a golf course.

If you saw the list of “organizations” they used to “consult” you know they are working to an end goal.

All this public input is for show. Surprised someone has filed some sort of legal action to try and stop this.

They plan to butcher it. So far, Sasaki has not produced a plan that keeps the golf course in its present form. If they alter it substantially, rounds will decrease and they will use that to advocate eliminating the course or reducing it to a 3-hole pitch and putt amusement park feature.

It’s drawn up as an 1840 yard par 30 with the par 4s measuring 306, 330, and 280. One par three is 237 lolz.

It’s a middle finger to the golf community in br and i expect them to try and ram it through.

I honestly don’t know what to do with this brec vote. Are the interested parties doing all this shite to piss everyone off and vote against the brec money. so brec will be more inclined to pass the course to the conservancy?

I wonder what Nathan Crace thinks about his name being attached to this butcher job.

Anyone know why varsity wants to gut it? I spent years running the outside of that golf course, by the lakes. Great running spot.
They already have the little splash pad back there, and do movies on that lawn behind the art gallery. I don’t get it.

Email all of the commissioners and explain why you would like to see them vote against any changes to the existing CP.

Jenni Peters has often stated that she wants more of a "central park:" that everyone can use. But City-Brooks is already a central park, with numerous facilities and activities, and there is no guarantee that if the golf course disappears more people will visit City Park.
And once the course is gone, it is gone FOREVER.

Scott Rabalais's column yesterday was excellent and on point.

Let your local officials know.

I'd rather ask the officials who exactly wants this? Why is BREC spending money on something most of the actual taxpayers oppose? Put that money into something else. Or, here is a novel idea, save it!!

Its a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Gotta do it for a better Baton Rouge

15:52 she’s truly a golfer. “City park is one I’ve never really played at.”
