At least he’s honest. He doesn’t give a shite how many people want to keep the course as is or what effect it has on the other golf courses when they butcher it or shut it down completely.

They are saying if you want to play golf, join a country club or frick off.

Why is Polito talking about rating and slope anyway? Ironically enough, that has far more to do with the length of a course, and basically nothing to do with the quality.

He clearly doesn't understand that course rating is a measure of difficulty and is doubling down on ignorance here. Sheesh

Polito is trying to sound like a knowledgeable golf insider when in fact he knows or cares nothing about the beautiful, historic, City Park golf course, home to generations of Baton Rouge golfers for a hundred years.

It’s irrelevant what the slope of the course is but he’s acting publicly like a short easy course doesn’t deserve to exist.

They are throwing every possible thing they can at the wall hoping something sticks to get what they want. Race, socioeconomics, environment, economic development, slope rating lol.

We just don’t want to get rid of the little course. Build around it.

Polito and his design firm Sasaki claim their plans build around the existing course, but in fact their plan take 350 yards off and reduce par from 321 to 31. Taking 350 yards is like taking out an entire hole, and no one wants to play a chopped golf course like that.

There’s too many libraries. There’s also a library in every school. Libraries are going the way of the dodo bird. They are plush with cash anyway. Vote no on all tax renewals.

I dunno. Go so often wiht my kids. We always have so much fun getting movies and books. They have a ton of good golf books and I bet I could get a program there that is like entry level golf with kids, families.

The millions spent on the lakes plus the golf course is to help a small group of rich people living around that area. If those people want the golf course then they should create a special taxing district to fund it.

I have said forever that if cheap crappy golf got young people into the game then Baton Rouge and LA would be the golf Mecca. For years we had cheap and plentiful golf.

Down voting going to the library with my kids is about as what’s wrong with Louisiana as anything I can think of.

This just isn’t true. When I visit family in Denver and play golf the public courses in general are both cheaper and better than in Baton Rouge.

Better maybe. But not cheaper than City Park LSU Dumas / Clark or Webb.

Heck for years we had so many courses in the area golf could be so cheap and it still wasn’t the golf Mecca.

It was a race to the bottom. Could get a round and lunch for $20 some days.

It’s much easier to maintain golf grass in Denver than it is in Baton Rouge.

I believe Brec could do a better job of maintaining the courses but instead they likely set a budget for each course and take the excess earnings of that course and apply it to other Brec programs. They should probably charge more and spend the money on improvements where the money is made but it is what it is.

This is not a reason to say profoundly stupid shite like “Fingers crossed that goat ranch course gets nuked.” or “The millions spent on the lakes plus the golf course is to help a small group of rich people living around that area.”

You think the people running around the lakes and playing city park all live there? You don’t live in BR if you believe that.

Also if City Park closes, the beginners have to move to the already busy public courses making golf in this town even more miserable.

This also makes me more irritated that a member of a private country club and complete hack is on the Brec board and pushing this anti golf agenda on the people that aren’t in private clubs.
